Settle down here for a smashing sandside stay at this pristine and very well-appointed site on the Adriatic Sea coast: aside from lots of fun on site, plenty of funtastic family excursions are within easy driving distance too, including a couple of outdoor adventure parks and a waterpark, plus a safari park, zoo and sea lion aquarium complex with rollercoaster and water rides, a lake, a nature trail and a small railway, all within about an hour’s drive. Campeggio Pineta al Mare is a fun and kid-friendly beachfront site in the coastal spot of Brindisi, backed by whitewashed hill towns and centuries-old farmland. Its setting among a large and rather lush pine woodland overlooking the sea means that you can easily access the fably fine sandy beach next door (Lido Sabbia D'Oro) via a nippy 10-minute walk, and should you ever fancy a change of scene, heaps of other award-winning spiaggias alternating between small coves, broad sandy beaches and rocky shallows fringe the 14 kilometre-long Carovigno coastline. On-site days can be filled with all sorts of activities organised by a team of energetic entertainers, from zumba and dance classes to aqua aerobics and pool games; and should you wish/have time to get out and explore Puglia, the ever so enthusiastic excursions team is on hand to help you plan day trips to the most tiptop of spots around the local area. Other leisure facils at the park include a big outdoor pool with a waterslide to whoosh down, as well as a separate kids' paddling pool next door where teenier tots can splosh in safety. Tasty morsels can be snaffled at the park’s restaurant and pizzeria (which handily offers a takeaway pizza service if you’d rather dine behind closed doors), and tipples can be sipped at the lounge bar or by the pool while you watch the tiddlies splash and swim. For a self-catered stay, the well-stocked supermarket is where you can pick up all your foodie bits and pieces, and a bunch of modern barbecue areas are at your disposal for al fresco grilling… If you’re concerned about piling on a pooch due to all the sampling you’ll inevitably be indulging in, the site’s fitness centre is where you can raze several hundred on-hol cals. Amenities include a shower and toilet block with a separate parent and baby bathroom, a washing-up area and a launderette with coin-operated machines and an ironing board. Wifi is available too, as well as an internet point for guests’ use.

Should you manage to tear yourself away from all the fab facils at Pineta al Mare, there’s more than enough for weeks’ worth of fun with the fam within an hour’s scenic drive; Ciuchino Birichino Adventure Park is within half an hour by car for treetop adventure trails, archery, orienteering and falconry, and Acquapark Egnazia is around the same distance north along the coastline for waterslides, wave machines and more water-based buffoonery. If you’re into animals of the mammally or marine variety, head over to Zoosafari Fasanolandia, 40 kilometres from base – it’s got a safari park, a zoo and a sea lion aquarium, and if you’re up for tagging on some white-knuckle stuff, you can hit the rollercoasters and water rides there too; for something more sedentary while, promenade around the lake and along the nature trail, or hop on the little railway train for a tour around the grounds. Elsewhere, visit the limestone cave system of Castellana Caves, within an hour’s drive, to enter a pure-white alabaster cavern adorned with stick-thin stalactites, or continue on to coastal university city of Bari, a little further along the coast, which hosts heaps of foodie fests throughout the year and is a fine spot for a wander around.
