  • Six scenic hectares among green surroundings in the Jura countryside
  • About an hour's drive from Switzerland
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, hammam and miniature golf
What an utterly beaut pool. And the indoor one here is pretty smashing too, as are the site surroundings in green Jura countryside: stop for a sec to have a click through the site pics… Camping Beauregard is a peaceful, roomy and highly scenic park, near Mesnois in the Franche-Comté, and in an area of waterfalls, caves and lakes. As well as those excellent pools, the site has a sauna and a hammam to ensure maximum relaxation, along with kids' clubs and kids' activities to keep the relaxed vibe (for grownups) firmly in place. Kids can also let off steam at the miniature golf course and sports fields, or chill out in the TV and games room if they want some indoors time (unlikely in these surroundings). Back outdoors, the colourful playground is well kitted out with slides, climbing nets and tunnels. The restaurant is just across a country lane from the site, opposite the entrance. If you're cooking for yourself, the town of Clairvaux-les-Lacs seven kilometres away has a good range of shops and sells fresh local produce at its market every Wednesday.

Local attractions

Camping Beauregard is in a countryside setting, among the hills and lakes of the Jura region. Its local town is Mesnois, a commune above the Ain river and a popular place for fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking. Department capital Lons-le-Saunier is 13 kilometres away. Three lakes with lifeguarded beaches and watersports are within easy reach, including Clairvaux a few kilometres away, pretty centrally placed within Jura's lake district. The waters of Chalain and Vouglans lakes are within 20 kilometres, as are several unsupervised lakes including Lacs d'Etival, Lac du Val and Lac d'Ilay (if you're an angler, du Val is the spot for carp fishing). Just to the east (and home to fab Lake Geneva) is the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park, on the French/Swiss border among the Jura mountain range. Its closest access point from the site is at the pretty town of Champagnole, to the north-east at the foot of Mont Rivel; have a potter around town too to source some of its topping local produce such as smoked Jura ham, honey and Comté cheese. Several more scenic towns are within six kilometres of Mesnois, including Baresia-sur-l'Ain, Blye, Publy, Verges, Hautecour and Cogna. Across the border, Switzerland is about 55 kilometres away.
