Electric grass pitch

Liked: Easy booking process. Great comms from hosts. Friendly welcome from Rob & Kathleen. As only a few campers are allowed at any one time, they make your stay personal. They introduced us to most of the alpacas & llamas! Plenty of field space to camp or run about! Gave good advice on local pub - Harwood Hotel usually runs a free pick up service, but was unavailable while we were there, so a good 45 min walk! Fabulous Full English Breakfast delivered to our motorhome. Good time spent in shop learning about alpaca wool process, & sharing Robs' knowledge on his vintage cars & tractors. Went above & beyond to make me a llama & a beanie hat in my colour choice (Murphy Green!). Will definitely try to stay there again the next time we travel to Australia. We have already told our fellow campers about Cardiff Alpacas, & would certainly recommend them to all campers who are looking for peace & quite, wide open spaces, & a unique experience. Many thanks to Rob & Kathleen for being great hosts! Dawn, Rob & Amanda. #3pomsdownunder

Liked: Wonderful ‘off grid’ place to stay. Loved the quiet atmosphere of the farm and the chance to interact with the llamas and alpacas. Kathleen and Robert were wonderful hosts. Breakfast was especially amazing. Coffee and tea served in silver service set out on the lawn.

Liked: We loved our 4 night stay here, the hosts were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The farm tour was informative and the kids (and adults) loved feeding the alpacas and lamas. We were even lucky enough to have two cria(baby) born during our stay and the kids could even hold them. The grounds were kept tidy with lush green grass for the kids to run around on. It’s only a short drive to Maclean (great Chinese and awesome coffee at Boltero. Only 15min to Yamba and the Clarence River where we caught lots of flathead and bream. We would highly recommend Cardiff Alpacas and will definitely stay again when back up this way.

Local attractions

Is that purple rain? No, it’s just the mauve shades of the Jacaranda trees lining the streets of Grafton (40 minutes’ drive). You can see them in their full glory in See Park (40 minutes). When the craving for more jaw-dropping scenery hits, head to ‘the Scottish town in Australia’, Maclean (10 minutes), where you can fish against a backdrop of valley views. For world-class swells, head to Angourie (20 minutes), a seaside town that's popular for surfing and fishing, and swimming in the freshwater Angourie Blue and Green Pools (25 minutes) is a rite of passage. Spooky Beach (20 minutes) isn’t as fearsome as it sounds, with a sandy stretch to unwind on. Nearby Yamba (20 minutes) has more surfing beaches and a wander-worthy reel of sights, including Flinders Well, Yamba Lighthouse and the Yamba Historical Museum. Although it may be further to go, the Everlasting Swamp National Park (an hour) is a rare sight worth the trip, and your best chance to glimpse rare species of birds among the wetlands.
