  • Modern site with Ramsey Sound views, a 10-minute drive from St Davids
  • A 10-minute walk to St Justinian’s; Whitesands Bay 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches a short walk from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
With spectacular views and access to some of Pembrokeshire’s finest countryside, Rhosson Ganol Caravan and Camping Park is in a splendid spot a 10-minute drive from the cathedral city of St Davids, on a working farm that has been home to the same family for more than 100 years. In addition to modern, clean and well-maintained facilities and hot showers, this family-orientated site has far-reaching views towards Ramsey Island and the St David’s Head peninsula. Settling in here means you’re in a prime location to explore this dramatic coastline – or alternatively just hang around on site to enjoy the serenity and the sunsets over Ramsey Sound. If you fancy abandoning the car for a day, you can take the 10-minute walk to St Justinian’s, where you can go on a guided tour of the RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station on the cliffside. From St Justinian’s, you can also access the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, go on a fishing trip or take a boat to Ramsey Island, an RSPB Nature Reserve where you might see guillemots, choughs and Atlantic grey seals. Dogs are welcome to join you here, and at many of the local attractions – the closest dog-friendly beach is the quiet, sheltered cove of Porthselau (15 minutes’ walk). From here, at low tide, you can wade to Whitesands Bay – but be sure to check the tide times before attempting this route. Alternatively, stay dry by hailing the local bus service, which will take you right into St Davids.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Excellent location with 🌊 view lots of walking trails and walking distance to the nearest beach, pizzas baked every evening. Hot drinks and fresh baked croissants, it’s a bonus. Facilities are new and clean, everything you need.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Loved the location and view, the spaciousness of the pitches, the facilities (morning coffee and pastries and evening pizza were a fab addition). We took a fantastic boat trip from the lifeboat pier just minutes away seeing porpoise, seals and birds, and loved the clifftop walks and nearby beach (which our dog loved too!).

Disliked: The beach was slightly further away than we had thought, so we didn't end up carrying our kayak across. But not a problem as it was still close enough for swimming and dog walking.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Liked the arrivals board, so no messing about, went straight to our pitch. Fantastic views of Ramsey Sound. Large pitches with electric and water. Coffee hut for morning pastries, pizzas on a Saturday night. Modern, clean shower facilities. Especially liked the badger that lived next to our pitch and pinched food from our awning!!

Disliked: The toilets and showers were a bit of a walk from the campsite, we had a portaloo so not a major problem, and looking at the location of the pitches it made sense.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Stunning views (these really were outstanding especially with the perfect weather for our stay). The toilet/shower/baby changing/laundry utility block was clean and relatively new. Electric and water hook up easily assessable. Daily coffee & cakes cabin open for morning coffee and pastries/snacks. They offered on site pizza service one evening which seemed popular. There was a local bus service that could transport you to local spots like St David’s and Whitesands from St Justinians lifeboat car park (100 yards from the campsite).

Disliked: The distance from the pitch to the toilet unit was a little longer than expected and wouldn’t be easily assessable for anyone with difficulty walking. Advised to have a self-contained camper so all your amenities are available when needed. Wi-fi was terrible and was only available right next to reception which was 100 yards from the first pitch, let alone the rest of the site. Seating was outside benches near reception, so no undercover area if it was raining - only suitable if weather was fine! Campsite confusing to find, pitch setup instruction small and name put on a notice board. Once you’ve been once you know the routine, but for new visitors this could be stressful. Shower cubicles could do with more hooks and really a space for changing in the cubicles for privacy.

Liked: Location was fabulous, what an amazing view! Toilet & shower blocks clean & tidy. Bonus of having clothes washing and drying facilities available. The bus service was brilliant. Bus is about every 1/2 hour.

Disliked: Lights didn’t come on in washing up room, but not really an issue.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The campsite was very laid back, friendly owners/staff around and about. The views of the coast were amazing with lots of scenic walks near by. The little coffee van was a great touch for the mornings where setting up the camping stove was too much effort. Great location with st David's being 10 mins away, solva 15-20 mins away. Family and dog friendly.

Disliked: Some instructions as to where to set up your tent e.g. to the left or right of the posts would've been good as some pitches ended up being quite small if in between two people that had done the opposite. Also somewhere to let the dogs off safely would've been great but appreciate there are walks nearby however, they were near cliffs. Also freezer wasn't great, didn't quite freeze the ice blocks so defrosted very quickly.

Local attractions

St Davids (10 minutes’ drive) owes its status as Britain’s smallest city to its 12th-century cathedral, with its remarkable wooden nave ceiling. Take in St David’s shrine, then visit the Gothic ruins of St Davids Bishop’s Palace just across the Alun river before heading back into the city centre for a look at art galleries and a bite to eat. If you’ve come to Wales with your surfboard or paddleboard your next stop should be Whitesands Bay (10 minutes), also known as Porthmawr – it's a top destination for watersports. With its sandy crescent overlooked by rugged hills covered in wildflowers, the area also lends itself to lazy beach days or coastal walks. A trip to Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm (10 minutes) ought to make kids with a passion for creepy crawlies pretty happy. In addition to a Tropical Bug Zoo with an ant colony, there’s also a British Bug House and a Walled Garden with butterflies and bees, plus several trails through farmland where you can learn about the importance of insect pollinators.
