  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break which is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Secure it at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the north Norfolk coast just two miles from Mundesley (it’s a 40-minute walk or a five-minute drive to its beach and Victorian seafront, which has beach huts). The exact location of this site is in a peaceful Norfolk village, which goes by the name Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting events and a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. Plus, it has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind, as Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site is dog-friendly too. The green light has been given for both barbecues and firepits (only the firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted), so that’s one way to wind down while reflecting on the day’s pursuits… You should have a good bank of firepit tales, what with the many beaches nearby – in Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, a social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Please note that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Clean, quiet and friendly. This campsite was a lovely getaway to the weekend close to the seaside. A chance to soak up the last of the summer heat. The fields are large so plenty of room. It was the last weekend before the end of the season. Very warm welcome from Christine. She directed us to local pub which was in walking distance and explained how to get to the nearest beach. We really enjoyed our weekend there.

Disliked: It would be a bonus to have more shower cubicles.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The similarities of booking when at 5.30 pm because of a mistake with our booking at a nearby site. Saw the site, booked for a 1 night stay close by, electric hook up, shower, loo and chemical waste area. The owner was met us with a very warm welcome. We drove onto the very beautiful open meadow. Well signed up for the facilities and reception. Pub close by. We will definitely be back there.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nice friendly welcome from Bernie on arrival. We were non ehu, so could park anywhere...we chose right on the edge of the large, level field. Toilets and showers clean and adequate with really hot water. Good value for money. Very peaceful stay...so quiet and restful. Good for the soul. And the friendly Crown pub is only a short walk away. Thank you Christine (owner)

Disliked: Nothing to do with the campsite, but I wish people would squeegee/mop the shower out so it's nice for the next person, as we always do!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful surroundings, very quiet. Shower and toilets very clean. Staff who met us on arrival very friendly and polite.

Disliked: Wasn’t many people on site which was great as only 2 showers for whole camp site, more would be ideal.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely site. Friendly welcome. Loos always clean (not ports loos real loos) love that you can pitch where you want and no arrival and departure time (non electric pitches only) Very little light poluton in the area so of its a clear night the stars are beautiful. One side of the site is next to a road but it's not busy at all. It's a super quite site. It's lovely.

Disliked: Shower temperature went between scalding hot and freezing cold. (in the ladies) men's was OK. The field is on a slope which may bother tent pitches but was fine for a campervan

Local attractions

When it comes to getting stuck into the north Norfolk coast, you might want to get a ticklist going…there’s Overstrand beach and Walcott beach to see and crabbing on the pier in Cromer (all 15 minutes' drive). Keep ticking them off: the lighthouse in Happisburgh (20 minutes), seal spotting at Blakeney Point (40 minutes) and Waxham (35 minutes) or sandy beaches at Sea Palling (half an hour) and Wells-next-the-Sea (55 minutes). The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent. There’s a generous handful of National Trust properties within driving distance of Meadow View, plus ways to get out onto The Broads in Wroxham (half an hour). You might want to board the Bure Valley Railway there or join The North Norfolk Steam Railway in Sheringham (25 minutes). For all you budding historians, Weybourne (half an hour) has the Muckleburgh Military Collection too. Family-friendly ventures are easily sourced, with various entertainments in North Walsham (10 minutes), treetop adventures at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) and all the attractions in Great Yarmouth (50 minutes) like Pleasure Beach, Britannia Pier and Sea Life Great Yarmouth.
