  • Dog-friendly site 25 minutes’ walk from Mundesley beach
  • A 20-minute drive from Cromer; 25 minutes to East and West Runton
  • Within walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants in Mundesley
There’s no stopping your north Norfolk getaway once you step foot into Alford Barn Camping. A 25-minute walk from the beach in Mundesley, with pubs, restaurants, shops and all sorts on the way, this well-maintained site has rather excellent views of the north Norfolk landscape. The large pitches are within easy driving distance of six popular north Norfolk’s beaches, where highlights include crabbing in Cromer (20 minutes’ drive), spotting seals in Sea Palling (25 minutes) and browsing the weekly market in Sheringham (half an hour). Mundesley beach is the closest, of course. The Victorian seaside village has a miniature golf course, cafés, arcades, fish and chips shops, a petrol station, post office and lots of dog-friendly walking routes – everything you could need for entertainment and convenience, really. There are also local bus routes to Cromer, Sheringham and other destinations. Back at base, the facilities include a recycling point and a toilet and shower block (that’s post-beach rinses sorted). Families and dogs are all welcome on the level grassy pitches. If you want a change of scenery from Mundesley, the nearest town is North Walsham, 10 minutes’ drive away. It has all the usual amenities, such as shops, banks, takeaways, a gym, swimming and a sports centre. Add to that garden centres and a local Thursday market. From North Walsham, it’s also possible to take a train to Norwich city centre in half an hour.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: For a small site the facilities were one of the best we’ve seen. Host was very approachable and helpful when needed. Pitches were nice and level. Great location. Beach and pubs all in walking distance. And supermarkets only short drive away too. Wasn’t aware they had wifi but it wasn’t needed as our phones had normal signal anyways.

Disliked: Nothing.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The tent pitches are larger plenty of space for your vehicle to be parked next to your tent. Close to local towns and attractions. It was only about about 20 minute walk to the beach. The owner was very nice. He checked on us and made sure we were okay. Toilets were nice and clean and showers were hot. Good facilities for washing up dishes and cups. The doughnut van was a massive hit with us special with having two young children.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The owners, especially John, were incredibly helpful. We couldn't find the site so phoned the number on the booking and John came out to meet us! All queries were answered straight away - they even saved some doughnuts for us! The shower was lovely too. Lovely site in a great location My two boys (8 and 15) were able to play with their football As the site is quite small and secure my 8 year old was able to find me at the washing up or go to the toilet by himself once he built up his confidence and I felt happy with this We were able to have a camp fire which we borrowed from the site

Disliked: Road noise (the occasional fast car on a quiet country road) but like others have said they're growing plants/trees which will help with this. They're also growing things in between pitches to help with noise reduction and privacy Potentially a leaflet with details and rules could be helpful although there was lots of info on the website. Possibly a noise cut off time

Liked: The owners were so welcoming, friendly and did an amazing job of keeping the facilities clean! They also gave us some brilliant recommendations for things to do in the local area. The site was dog friendly and it was completely fenced which put us at ease as it was our first camping trip with our dog. We loved our stay, thank you!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: : We loved EVERYTHING. Hosts John and Lucy made the stay even better by being on hand checking in daily if anything was needed, giving you information about places to go and things to see and their daughter even makes donuts for guests. The site was just what we were looking for, small only tents and dog friendly. The site is really clean and tidy and has everything you needs for a small site, female, gent and mixed toilets and showers all with lovely hot water, we never had to wait. There is a great washing up area and various bins for general rubbish, recycle and glass. You can borrow BBQs and fire pits and buy the wood from the site. The pitches are spacious small well-kept shrubs in-between each pitch. Lovely little touches such as the plant pots near each pitch and the washing up area. Across the road is a field and safe walk to Mundesley, where you will find a beautiful beach, shops, and the Ship pub/restaurant. We will most certainly be back again, keep doing what you do as we have found a little gem in this site.

Disliked: I would like it to be open more because when more people visit, I'm sure it will be harder to get in. Thankyou

Local attractions

The sea’s a splendid setting for all sorts of watersports, but gliding upon the river in Coltishall (20 minutes’ drive) will shake things up slightly. Kayakers and paddleboarders can relax on the gentler water. By this point, you should be full of seafood consumed in Cromer (20 minutes) and have plenty of energy for walking, cycling and fishing at Blickling Hall (25 minutes), a Jacobean country home with extensive grounds. You might spot a seal at Sea Palling beach (25 minutes) or a few dazzling birds along your boating adventures on the Norfolk Broads. Day boat hire is available in Wroxham (half an hour). Beaches you might want to check include West Runton (25 minutes) and East Runton (25 minutes), but leave time for a steam train trip to Wroxham on the historic Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham station (25 minutes). Norwich (40 minutes) might be your final stop. The city’s waterways are excellent for watersports, and of course, there are historic sites like a medieval cathedral, a Saxon marketplace and a museum.
