  • Family-friendly site two minutes’ walk from Mediterranean beaches
  • Hikes, dives, bungee jumps and watersports within half an hour
  • Swimming pools, hot tub, natural spring, massages and spa on site
Scenic hills, sweeping ocean vistas and sandy Mediterranean beaches? At Camping Los Delfines, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside resort of Puerto de Mazarrón in Murcia, you can tick all of this off your getaway bucket list. This is a top spot for coastal explores and inland bikes – the site is a two-minute walk from El Mojón beach, so be sure to pack that cossie for splashingly entertaining days in the water and well-deserved lazing on the sand. If laying out beach-side isn’t your thing, turn your back to the sea for dozens of scenic cycle trails from Puerto de Mazarrón or set out on the Rambla del Canar hiking route. For lazy(ish) days on site, you’re well set up: rack up the points in a round or two of pétanque, spend a few hours in the games room or take a dip in one of the two pools before unwinding tense muscles in the jacuzzi. The best bit? The pools and jacuzzi are filled with thermal waters that have bubbled up at a nice and toasty 35°C, so you’ll be floating on cloud nine in no time. Once your need for munch kicks in, wander along to the on-site restaurant for bites, or trek into Puerto de Mazarrón for local eats at local eateries. When you’re just about ready to hit the hay, get yourself nice and zen with a massage at the spa, then toddle off among the palm trees to bed.

Local attractions

Start in Puerto de Mazarrón for some local history at the Roman Factory of Salazones, and the Roman Villa del Alamillo and Calle Era sites, then venture on to the Torre de los Caballos museum and the ancient mines of Mazarrón, as well as the stunningly scenic Batería de Castillitos and its Guns of Mazarrón, all within half an hour’s drive. Haven’t had enough history yet? Head to Cartagena, 35 minutes away, to dive into Roman ruins and museums galore, or carry on to Murcia (just under an hour) for gorgeous architecture, gardens, castles, museums and – if you need a break from the past – plenty of shops. If you’re after something a little more nature-filled, you can go cave diving at the Cueva del Agua in Isla Plana, stroll in awe among the spectacular Gredas de Bolnuevo rock formations, and make your way into Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñosa y Roldán Regional Park for birdwatching, heady hikes and some pretty spesh views. If this is all proving a little too sedate, amp up the adrenaline with more high-octane pursuits – how about diving, paragliding, bungee jumps, parachuting and wakeboarding? – at Siroco Aventuras, half an hour away.
