  • Forest glamping site in the Guasca area, an hour from Bogotá
  • Paragliding, boat trips and hikes organised by site staff
  • Social area with bar/restaurant and communal campfire
Fresh air, forest walks and fab activities, all but an hour’s drive from Bogotá? They’re all on the menu at Maloca Glamping, a peaceful rural site surrounded by greenery in the gorgeous Guasca area. The site's name comes from its collection of malocas, structures inspired by traditional dwellings constructed by native South Americans. The digs here are rather more swish than their predecessors though – each is kitted out with comfy beds, a private bathroom and a solar energy panel. They've been built on wooden platforms, with the dual purpose of providing underfoot stability and a private deck for alfresco drinks, admiring the stunning views or staring up into the starry skies. If it gets a little chilly (as it can in mountain climes), move the party over to the communal campfire area to cosy up around the flames or retreat into your maloca, where a good pile of bedding to keep you toasty as you slumber. Gathering with fellow guests is encouraged by the friendly folk here, who’ve set the place up with a social area where you can order eats and drinks throughout the day or just curl up with a book by the fireplace. If you're heading out, ask ahead and they'll happily pack you off with some snacks to feast on along the way. And if you need a hand with sorting such outings, they’ll be on hand with advice, trail maps or organised trips.

Local attractions

It's all about the open air in these parts, and there are plenty of ways to take it all in at whatever pace you fancy. Bring along a mountain bike or hiking boots and site staff will arm you with trail maps and point you towards places of interest. The two-hour trek to the village of Guasca is a popular pick; by car, try visits to the Chingaza Natural Park (half an hour’s drive), Laguna Siecha (45 minutes) and the Nemocón salt mine (an hour and 15 minutes). Guides and transport can be sorted on site if you’re headed to Encenillo nature reserve or Reserva El Zoque, both less than half an hour away. Have a chat on site for details of climbing trips in Suesca (an hour away) or rather more relaxed boat trips on Tomine Lake (25 minutes). If all this has left you with a desire to see your surrounds from on high, your hosts can also arrange for you to take to the air, either on a hot air balloon outing or a launching from Cerro Pionono in a paraglider.
