Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Loved the location - a gorgeous walk or short drive to a lovely beach. the campsite was so peaceful, beautiful views to the sea if you were in the right spot and easy access to the woods where my son had the best time playing. We really didn't need to leave the campsite at all. Facilities were all really well looked after and in great working order. Loved that it was all eco.

Disliked: Loved everything

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The simplicity, environmental ethos, including composting toilets and the explanation of why, the location and easy reach of a beach, close to a village shop which is good for most things, lots of great places for kids to explore, decent showers. Great value for money and mangers that live on site that deal quickly with any issues.

Disliked: None.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Views, grounds, walks, location.

Disliked: Showers unclean, compost toilets awful. Overgrown grass. No staff.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, The compost toilets are stated on our listing, they are kept clean and in good condition. They are checked twice a day. Im sorry if you arent used to compost toilets, and the important reasons we use them, it is listed on our site to manage customer expectations. The grass I have sent a picture today to pitch up as although it is not freshly cut as we are a rustic site but isn't overgrown. We have reception open 6-8 in peak season, and we state that on our listing and site, so sorry if you didn't see us, I do check the site twice daily, hopefully, you were out exploring the wonderful walks.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful, secluded location with countryside views. Be mindful of where you set up if forecasted to be windy. Try to pick a sheltered spot.

Disliked: The long drive to campsite from the road could do with leveling or resurfacing as lots of pot holes and very rugged in parts.

From the manager: Hi, So sorry for the weather the one thing we cant help! Glad you found a sheltered spot! The track has been hard with this weather we are on the case to sort it out xxx

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The view, once you stood on the wall to see it! Plenty of space.

Disliked: Only came here as my usual go to campsite was closed due to licensing issues. (they had hot proper showers, freezers, microwave, etc for same price). For the facilities it's too expensive! Not hot water at all. Had to have cold showers and wash up with cold water, so resorted to boiling the kettle to wash up and strip wash. Farmer was ploughing the surrounding fields the whole weekend, all day and evening, couldn't hear eachother talk it was so loud. Sounded like an airplane engine, not a peaceful relaxing location! Track to site is very long and pot holes in need of attention, very rough ride. Grass was quite long in camping field, soaked everything. Was expecting a sea view, but the photo on site is taken from another field with no facilities and not advertised to camp in. Had a slight sea view if stood on the wall at top of field.

From the manager: Hi, So sorry that we dont have freezers, microwave, etc we don't advertise this and do not have power, we are an eco site and proud of that. The showers on site are hot, you can see from the other reviews. My number is also on-site in several locations if needed help. Im so sorry you struggled with them. Both fields are open to camp including the one the image you posted is from, however, both fields have sea views as you can see from customer pictures on pitch up (not ours) The farmers in a surrounding field are out of our control, the day mentioned they would have been heard from any campsite in a 10-mile radius. We cant control the farmers in a rural area, and need to remember they are doing their best, and farmers mean food. Sorry you were disturbed by them but it really is out of our control. We want our guests to have the best experience possible and do everything we can to make sure of that.

Lovely spot, lovely hosts & good facilities.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Check in process was really easy. We were mainly left to it but also the owner was there with swift replies when we did need anything. Had plenty of space to choose from so we weren't pitched up right next to anyone else, but also the toilets weren't really far away. Toilets were great, showers were great (basic but hot ❤️ with good pressure) and the washing up sink was really handy. Loads of drinking water available too so didn't have to carry water far. Views were amazing and the walk that goes from the campsite down toward the coast is really lovely. Especially at sunset.

Disliked: The whole stay was great, only criticism would be of Neil "The Lighthouse" who arrived quite late on our last night, set up right next to us and had the brightest light known to man which illuminated most of Anglesey. Probably confused a few ships with that headtorch 😂

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Peaceful, plenty of space, close to the beach, loads of amazing scenery and woodland to explore.

Disliked: Lack of signage, could have done with more signage to direct you around the site and routes to the beach etc, one map by the shower block but we were staying in the other field and did not see this until late on our first night. Showers SCALDING hot. Unusable. There was no temperature control and I was unable to even put my hand in. Could not shower my children. Advertised a food truck on site Saturday night and Sunday morning but this didn’t turn up. Site could benefit from another washing up station.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, Im so sorry about the showers our number is them in case of issues. Someone messaged Saturday evening to say it was hot, and they were fixed by 9am Sunday. Someone had moved the setting g at the back, we are going to box it off. I'm so sorry we fixed it as soon as we could. Im also so sorry about the food truck, its a third party that comes to do food Saturday evening and she couldn't come due to illness, it was out of our control, but I understand your frustration and I'm very sorry. xxxx

Once you enter the estate, you will cross over two cattle grids. After crossing the second cattle grid, there is a left-hand turning marked 'CAMPING'. Follow the signs on the track through two fields. The final field is the camping field, where the toilets are directly ahead of you. Please pitch up in these fields along the hedge or the treeline, where it is sheltered, leaving eight metres between your pitch and other guests. What3words: clip.relief.abode.

Local attractions

You can learn all about Amlwch and its 18th-century transition from fishing village to copper mining town at the Copper Kingdom Centre (25 minutes’ drive). After checking out the displays, stroll along the colourful trails lacing Parys Mountain, which was once home to the world’s largest copper mine. Step into a tropical environment at Pili Palas Nature World (half an hour). Here you can marvel at butterflies and moths flying all around you in the butterfly house, watch meerkats being fed and meet colourful macaws and cockatoos. There are also exotic spiders and lizards, and (if creepy-crawlies aren’t your thing) fluffy rabbits and inquisitive miniature goats. Sitting on the Menai Strait, Plas Newydd House and Gardens (35 minutes) is an 18th-century mansion with gardens bursting with vibrant hydrangeas and rhododendrons. It’s worth popping inside too, to catch a glimpse of a gigantic mural (measuring 17.5 metres) by Rex Whistler depicting an idealised view from the building.
