  • Cosy, simple pods at a rural site two miles from Yeovil
  • A 20-minute drive from Cerne Abbas Giant; 40 minutes from the coast
  • Dog-friendly site 10 minutes' walk from train station and pubs
Seeking a fine location for getting out for walks and bike rides? Somewhere quiet in the Somerset countryside? Rexes Hollow will certainly fit the mould: this small site is two miles south of Yeovil and only about 10 minutes’ walk from Yeovil Junction station (handy to note for those aiming to travel by public transport). Get active on the great network of public footpaths and cycle routes around here – there are some stunning views to be had as you meander through the countryside and two pubs within a mile too if you feel that your active efforts should be rewarded with a cool drink and some food (and surely they should…) When not out ambling around the countryside, there’s fishing nearby, an indoor climbing centre and golf course in Yeovil and a couple of riding centres close by that can sort you out with days in the saddle. The spectacular scenery of the Jurassic Coast and the South West Coast Path is about 40 minutes away by car. Back at base after your adventures, you’ll be staying in a cosy pod with beds and mattresses provided (but not duvets, pillows or bed linen). Outside there’s a decked area with outdoor furniture where you can sit to soak up the views of the greenery all around. An amenities building with a wetroom is a short way from the pod. Dogs are welcome to stay and you should find plenty of places to take them out for a good walk nearby.

Liked: Peaceful site with good quality toilets/washrooms. Pod excellent thank you. Fairly close to Yeovil but felt very rural on site. Close to Jack the Treacle Eater and lovely walk into Nine Springs and also walk into Stoford to pub from site.

Local attractions

Walks, bike rides and horse rides are great ways to explore from Rexes Hollow but they're far from the only options, what with the Yeovil Steam Railway (10 minutes’ walk) being so close by. Or maybe you'd like to take a buddy for a walk instead at Cary Alpacas (20 minutes). If you’d rather stick to the wheels, the lake and woodlands around Ninesprings Country Park (five minutes’ drive/half an hour’s walk) are a splendid setting for such cycles. Or there’s Ham Hill Country Park (15 minutes' drive), a nature reserve with a Roman site and an Iron Age hill fort for a dose of history on your way around. More historical sites can be sought out locally, whether it’s a museum such as the Haynes International Motor Museum (20 minutes), the Fleet Air Arm Museum (15 minutes) or the Cerne Abbas Giant (20 minutes), a sculpture of a man etched into the side of a chalk hill from ancient times. As for some water-based action, cast your rod at Sutton Bingham Reservoir (five minutes) or head to the coast for the quiet West Bay beach (40 minutes) or golden Weymouth beach (40 minutes).
