Staying in the Somerset Levels means staying in something of a wildlife haven… and booking your break at Feather Down Farm - Glastonbury Hill Park means that you’ll be able to explore it all from the comfort of a cosy canvas hideaway full of luxury touches. This gorgeous little rural site is hidden away at the end of a quiet country lane, and it’s a place where the wildlife comes to you – you may well spot things like barn owls and wild deer during your stay. And of course as it’s a farm you’ll also be able to make friends with domestic beasts too, including goats, sheep and chickens. Your friendly host here is Peter, who’s on hand to answer your questions about farming life and offer tips on the local area – he’s something of a foodie too, so you can be sure that any eating recommendations you get will be top notch. There are several Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the area around the farm, so that means plenty of options for days of walking or bike riding in scenic surroundings – and you’ll certainly want to stop by in Glastonbury (half an hour’s drive) too, to explore the characterful town and find out about its Arthurian links. That said, you may well want to spend a fair amount of time on site too: the farm has stunning south-facing views that stretch over 20 miles to Dorset and the coast on a clear day, and you’ll have a patio with picnic table for drinks while you take it all in. Inside, each tent has comfy beds (with bed linen), a bathroom (with towels), a fully equipped kitchen and a woodburner (with firewood provided).

Local attractions

Which Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty first? Choices, choices… take your pick from the Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills and Quantock Hills, all of which are within a drive of half an hour or so and packed with lovely trails to follow on foot or by bike. The natural landscape has a lot to offer around here, in fact – you may also like to try outings to the likes of Wookey Hole caves and Cheddar Gorge (both 40 minutes) for some spectacular views formed by geology. On the manmade wonders front, take a look at the lovely cathedral in Wells (40 minutes) or the machines on display at Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum (20 minutes) and Haynes Motor Museum (25 minutes). And of course there’s fabulous Glastonbury (half an hour), to see the abbey, find King Arthur’s burial site and browse some truly individual shops before climbing the famed Glastonbury Tor.
