  • Simple Somerset farm pitches in a handy spot close to the A38
  • Cheddar Gorge and Burnham-on-Sea beach 10 minutes' drive
  • Riverside location in Lower Weare; village pub a minute's walk away
Seeking a slice of Somerset serenity – but without the need to negotiate lots of little winding roads? Somewhere that you can soak up the rural views but also find plenty of attractions and activities nearby? Peak View Gardens is just the place – this chilled-out campsite is on the banks of the River Axe in Lower Weare, and it’s just off the A38 for easy journeys in and out. The village location is a handy one, as it means you’ll be a mere minute’s walk from the local pub (a family-friendly place with a skittle alley as well as home-cooked food and plenty of local beers and ciders to sample). If you’d rather cook your own dinner, that’s fine too – guests are welcome to bring along a barbecue and pick up supplies from the butcher or supermarket in Cheddar (10 minutes’ drive away). Cheddar is, of course, also the place to pick up some cheese for your picnic lunch – and home to one of the area’s top attractions in the form of Cheddar Gorge. Other ways to fill your days around here might include hitting the beach, visiting one of the local animal parks, heading underground at Wookey Hole or exploring the pretty streets and cathedral in the tiny city of Wells (England’s smallest city, in fact). As the site’s on the edge of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there’s also the option of getting out for a scenic walk – with the closest route being the one up Crook’s Peak, right next to the site. This is a peaceful and simple site with hot running water, but guests do have access to a shower and portable toilets.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: lovely site with friendly staff and great views, was great to see the llamas and the facilities were clean

Disliked: separate toilet to shower would've been handy but not a massive issue. could have had better signage as i drove past it the first time

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Close to lots of fun places to visit. Small intimate field. Friendly people. Lovely owners. Very chilled. Hot shower and dish wash. Off the beaten track with no caravans or motorhomes. No cars kept on the field.

Disliked: Shower and loo in the same room so not ideal if two people needed to use the facilities at the same time. The road was noisy all night. The alpaca field might have been a bit quieter and felt more secluded and safer

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback. Next season we plan to open the furthest field which is much further away from the road. We also plan to expand the facilities. We hope to see you again soon! Brett & Dani

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Good location. Value for money. Hassle free set up.

Disliked: Toilet/shower facilities, everything got wet in the rain, even inside. Looks like there will be more built soon, so the issue should be rectified.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. I think the water on the floor was due to people not keeping the shower curtain inside the shower tray. We're looking to get a shower screen installed to avoid this issue soon. We also hope to have more facilties next season. We'd love to see you again. Brett and Dani

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Small site which we found perfect, out in the countryside yet not a million miles away from civilisation. Site has not been up and running for very long so new toilet/shower cubicle very clean with washing up area attached to the outside wall with hot running water! All we needed for our 3 night stay, we loved it and intend to return. Lovely walks accessible from the campsite, owners very friendly, lots of beaches just a 10-15 min drive away.

Disliked: Can’t be helped and didn’t impact on how much we enjoyed our stay but site is off a busy main road. It was difficult to drive out of at times as you can’t see what’s coming without pulling out into the road a bit. Also having to park away from your pitch isn’t our preference as we only have a small tent with no living/storage space. We do intend to return tho and will be purchasing a bigger tent anyway so wouldn’t be as much of an issue and you can drive to the pitch to unload/pack up.

From the manager: Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Next season we plan to open the furthest field which is much further away from the road. With all the bad weather we decided parking in the carpark was best to avoid any mud near pitches. If you return and this is inconvenient please let us know as its fine to park near your pitch. We hope to see you again. Brett and Dani

Disliked: So close to main road. Very noisy!

From the manager: Thank you for the feedback. Next season we plan to have all campers in the large field away from the road. We just need to put up more fencing to separate campers from the alpacas. We hope to see you again. Brett and Dani
