  • Wild camping pitches with sea views over Widemouth Bay beach
  • A five-minute drive from Bude; half an hour from Tintagel
  • Pub, shop, restaurant and surf hire all a couple of minutes' walk away
Ever dreamed of waking up to a sea view? Or perhaps stoking the flames of a campfire as the sun sets over the waves? Sign up for a bit of both with a stay at Sandparks Campsite, a friendly, informal pop-up site with wild camping pitches overlooking Widemouth Bay beach in north Cornwall. Those in the know will no doubt recognise this name as being one of Cornwall’s top surfing beaches – and as well as viewing it from your pitch you can also get down there to hit the waves whenever you fancy from here. And it’s not just the beach that’s handy from here: a pub (with top-notch Cornish ales), a restaurant (with fresh seafood) and a shop (with local meat and fish for your barbecue) are all a mere 50 metres away from the site. There’s also surfing kit hire available for those who don’t have their own board. If you fancy exploring a little further afield, it’s worth noting that this is a fine spot for getting out to walk on the South West Coast Path or to spend some time roaming around north Cornwall. Bude is about a 40-minute walk or five-minute drive away and you can get to the likes of Boscastle, Tintagel and Bodmin Moor within half an hour’s drive. Life on site is pretty simple, but guests will have access to a waste disposal point, a washing-up area and well-maintained toilet/shower facilities. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted at this laidback spot, as are visiting dogs.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Great location and just what we were looking for. East walk to the beach for great surfing. Basic facilities but much nicer than your average pop up site. Great to wake up and be able to watch the waves on the beach. We will most definitely be back.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Great views and plenty of water points.

Disliked: Facilities need an overhaul, the toilet block was at the end of its life, with the indoor showers condemned. The outdoor showers in 40mph winds were bracing to say the least. Be aware of the large number of crane flies, we have never seen so many in any other toilet block.!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, Thankyou for taking the time to review us as your feedback is important to us. The toilet block is at the end of its life and will be removed and replaced with new facilities for the 2024 season now we have permission to open a longer season rather than the Popup Campsite we are now. Crane flies are very bad this year due to the wet summer but are pretty harmless creatures. Hope to see you again next year to see the improvements x

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Great location for Widemouth beach. Does have facilities and these are being upgraded for 2024 Great view. Very quiet night September.

Disliked: Plenty of level space but field does slope so may need ramps in full season.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Lovely site overlooking the sea ,lots of space, pretty level ground

Disliked: Not a dislike but I book campsites where dogs must be kept on leads, one of the reasons for my decision on booking heare was the fact it stated that dogs must be on leads sadly yhis was not the case and dogs were running free.it was also quite noisy after 10pm .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are a 'dog friendly' site. However, dogs are expected to be on long leads. That said, my elderly dog sits at my feet all day and there is no way I will tie her up for 4+ months, while I manage the site If you found the site noisy after 22.00 hrs I wish you had informed one of the staff at the time. We do not tolerate noise or nuisance after 22.00 hrs and we try our utmost to impose this rule. If we are not informed at the time, there is very little we can do the following day as people will always deny they were at fault after the event.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Great location, right on the beach

Disliked: Showers are basically a shed with corrugated metal doors and walls but with lots of nice warm water. Lady at reception on arrival was quite abrupt!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, Thankyou so much for your review and comments on our location and being so close to the beach. Sorry you felt your reception was abrupt and will pass your feedback onto the manager. Yes the outside showers are an unusual feature. I would describe them as agricultural, but we find them perfect for sand covered guests and try and encourage them to use them. As you say plenty of hot water which is the main thing. We have recently got permission to open over a longer season so we can invest in new indoor facilities for next year, so please come back and visit us again and have a look at the improvements. Regards Sandparks

Local attractions

Widemouth isn’t the only bit of coastal Cornwall that’s easy to visit from here. Sandparks is also in a handy spot for outings to Bude (five minutes’ drive), where another top surf beach beckons, along with surf lessons and a sea pool for more gentle swims. Elsewhere along the coast, you could stop by in Boscastle (20 minutes) for a stroll around a traditional fishing village, or explore Arthurian legends at Tintagel Castle (half an hour) – perhaps also stopping by at the mystical St Nectan’s Glen (25 minutes) to see if you can spot pixies as you walk to the waterfall. Turning inland for a while, there are some great walks to be done on Bodmin Moor (25 minutes), or you could delve into the area’s history at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum (15 minutes). Other options for entertaining the kids might be the animals at New Mills Farm Park, the puzzle-themed attractions at Hidden Valley or the characterful residents of The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden – all are about a half-hour drive away.
