  • Friendly family-run farm site 20 minutes' drive from Launceston
  • A 15-minute drive from the coast path and Crackington Haven beach
  • Buy fresh eggs and homemade sausages and burgers on site
Farm life… it’s all pony rides, fresh eggs and homemade sausages isn’t it? Well, it is at Pattacott Farm, a friendly family park in Cornwall, 20 minutes’ drive from Launceston. This is very much an active working farm, keeping an assorted menagerie of rare-breed sheep and pigs, a herd of cattle and free-roaming chickens in the grounds. A couple of ponies also live on site, and the folk that run the place are happy to arrange local lead rein rides for nippers who’d like to have a taster of riding during their stay. The collection of animals isn’t just for show, of course – they contribute to the range of tasty items available to buy, including eggs for your brekkie and homemade sausages or burgers for your barbecue (which you could serve up in homemade bread from the farm too). You might fancy a crack at building a campfire as well, and you’re welcome to do so for flame-grilled dinners or to keep you toasty as you gaze up into the starry skies (the heavens often glitter overhead out here as the area is far away from light pollution). If you’re not planning to live on a diet of burgers alone, extra supplies can be sourced at the shop four miles away or in the supermarkets of Launceston and Bude (20 minutes). Once essentials are sorted, it’s time to plan for your activities: keep it local with a good rural ramble on the network of footpaths that runs nearby or make the 15-minute jaunt to the coast for more walks, beach days, surfing and legend-learning at Tintagel Castle (25 minutes).

Powered grass tent or campervan site (pet friendly)

Liked: Our idea of a perfect remote camping spot with incredible views of the night skies. Really surprised about the bad reviews regarding animals/flies! It’s a working farm! We loved our visits from the dogs, geese and even a sheep. Dogs were also great with my dog! Kev and sue were super accommodating, always contactable and responsive, even changing dates when our van broke down and pulling us out of the mud after some unexpected heavy rain. Electric/water/toilet/shower all great but we loved the remoteness and even had the field to ourselves for the 2 nights. You can even buy fresh farm produce from them! Good phone signal if you need it unlike some of the other campsites were stayed by nearby. Idyllic.

Disliked: Nothing - wouldn’t stay on a farm if you’re not okay with animals and a few flies!

Unpowered grass tent or campervan site

Liked: Lovely location and pleasant views from the site, owner seemed lovely on the phone and the farm produce I purchased (eggs, bacon and sausages) were delicious!

Disliked: Owner said that she’d tried to contact me in advance, as they would be out that evening, but didn’t receive the email (even in junk folder) and only one missed call but no answerphone message left. It meant that when I arrived, I didn’t know where to go (sign had blown over in the gale), but did manage to get hold of her after a few attempts and all then resolved.

Bell tent (pet friendly)

Liked: I liked the fact it was rural but not too far from amenities and services. Hosts were kind and extremely helpful. The glamping tent was spacious, clean and situated on a flat pitch. The fresh produce from the farm was extremely fresh and yummy, especially the sausages and lamb burgers..... hmmmm! Children loved having a campfire for there marshmallow roasting and wide views all around.

Disliked: Even though there were toilet and washing areas with hot and cold water, the shower cubicles aren't ideal for families as not much space to shower young children. Also, no play area for children as it is part of a working farm

Powered grass tent or campervan site (pet friendly)

Liked: The location and the freedom of where we wanted to set up our pitch within the motorhome section. The shower was hot and clean for the most part.

Disliked: Only being 2 toilets and 4 showers for the whole site. Shower spaces were very small in the cubicle and the space to get changed in - fine if a child but much harder if a grown-up. Having to hold a button in whilst you shower was frustrating and made things difficult. We never received the fresh food we requested for breakfast so had to make alternative arrangements. Heard some arguing from the house at approx midnight for a short while - glad we were in a van not a tent or this would have disturbed us. No baby change facilities for our friend with a young baby! The road into the site is full of potholes and could definitely be made better!

Disliked: Flys in tent, loose dogs, kitchen had no protection for weather conditions

From the manager: These people didn’t communicate at all . We tried to see them and they were not around . This tent was brand new and they were only the second guests to used it . It was hoovered out and floor washed . This is a tent in a field on a farm so if there are a few flies it goes with the territory. It’s clear that the cooking is out side with a gazebo . The weather was not good for these visitors . I can’t control the wind 😂. We left everything clean and tidy and they didn’t bother to wash up . Could do with out inconsiderate guests like this .

Funky Horse Lorry static caravan (no pets)

Liked: We stayed in the Funky Horse Lorry static caravan. Sue and Kev were friendly and helpful. They also had excellent communication with us via text prior to our arrival and after we arrived. We liked that we could have a campfire and there were the facilities provided for a campfire right next to our Caravan. We made s'mores among other things. There was also a wooden picnic table next to our caravan, which was nice. We didn't really use it because we had our own chairs, but it would have been much appreciated otherwise. We enjoyed being on the farm, the beautiful setting, the quiet and peacefulness of the farm and the countryside. There was a horse nearby, sheep and other animals, including a white cat who my children became friends with. The Funky Horse Lorry static caravan was nice and fit for purpose. It is not a 5-star hotel, so I don't understand any reviews which were negative in any way. We liked it. It will be helpful for the readers to know that there is a double bed with a mattress above which you can't see in the pictures. I wondered where that is when I read the advert and saw the pictures, so I wanted to share this with the readers. The single beds are the benches. There are plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, silverware, pots and pans, a stovetop, oven, a small fridge, table, toilet and some other things which I am sure I forgot to mention. The toilet is probably more suitable to use at nighttime for various reasons and the main toilets are so close to the caravan anyway. The showers are also near the caravan (at the same place as the toilets) and are nice and warm. I don't understand the negative comments about road/driveway leading up to the farm. It wasn't that bad. Yes, it is bumpy, but I don't know what people expect. It is a farm. I assume it is not a Council maintained road. Just drive slowly and you will be fine. I felt compelled to share my experience as it was a good one, especially as I read the reviews prior to visiting (with some being negative and petty). I hope this review will help you as you consider staying here. I will stay here again if I am in the area, especially if Sue and Kev continue to provide value for money. The price we paid was about right. Thank you Kev and Sue for your kindness and hospitality.

Disliked: Nothing really. I think Pattacott Farm and the Funky Horse Lorry static caravan were great! The toilet inside the caravan wasn't quite what I expected, but quite honestly I think that was probably just my ignorance and lack of experience. If you are used to caravans it will probably be exactly what you are expecting. I had to stretch myself to think of anything I may have disliked and only mentioned that because if you are new to caravans you may think the same at first. Just ask Sue or Kev about it and they will explain. You may prefer to use the main toilets during the daylight hours (which are closer to the Funky Horse Lorry static caravan than any of the other accommodation on Pattacott Farm anyway).

From the manager: So glad that you had a positive experience. I think we are a bit old fashioned but we really care about our visitors and just want everyone to have fun . Such a lovely family . Hope to see you again We have 5* shepherd huts with hot tubs on the other side of the farm but the camp site is a basic campsite. A meadow with beautiful views and clean basic accommodation . Our prices reflect this and this family clearly Appreciate that . Thank you for your honest and fair review .
