  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Chatsworth House and Haddon House both 20 minutes’ drive
  • Ice cream sold on site; access to Lathkill Dale via the camping fields
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The location was brilliant. Lots of walks available from campsite and Bakewell town close by. Staff were very friendly and always available to help.

Disliked: Facilities were okay but the shower blocks and toilets were not very clean. More washing up areas would be useful.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Fantastic views. Direct access to walks in surrounding area. Good facilities. Warm welcome. (Mobile phone signal!)

Disliked: Nothing as such, bank holiday weekend so everything was very busy - but this a marker itself of the popularity of the site.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The campsite layout and overall cleanliness of toilets. Nice views and friendly staff. Set a good distance from the main road

Disliked: It was a very busy bank holiday weekend a bit over crowded for my liking. In my opinion not enough toilets to cope with demand but as already mentioned it was very busy and beleive considering the amount of people the toilets were kept clean. Not enough water pressure in the new toilets which meant toilets not being flushed as they took forever to fill up

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful views, easy access to footpaths, spacious. Friendly staff. Space for kids to roam.

Disliked: Given the size of the site there were nowhere near enough washing facilities. 3 ladies showers for the whole site on a busy muddy weekend. Washing up space was also small as was refuse space and no way to separate recycling. The staff tried their hardest to keep bathrooms clean but it was an uphill struggle.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The views, walks and surrounding areas were lovely.

Disliked: No water taps where you camped, the only one was at reception, a good walk away. Only 1 shower block with 3 showers each gender, again a good walk at reception and not very well kept. With the size of the place, and amount of people, more is needed. The wood that they sell at the shop hasn't been seasoned and therefore doesn't burn very well. Not many places to pitch level either. Nothing for children.

From the manager: Hi hazel, thanks for taking time to write your review/opinion of our business. For anyone reading this review we do have several water points dotted around the campsite and if hazel had asked we would have told her where they all were. Due to the popularity of Haddon grove we are really happy that we are very busy especially on bank holidays so our facilities are bound to be stretched but worked perfectly all weekend. You say our wood isn’t seasoned but you are the first person to say about this?! Did you leave your logs out in the rain? As far as nothing for children to do I think the 75 families that have been here all half term would disagree the farm has been alive with children of all ages playing and having fun with each other having space freedom & friends also with all the animals to see on a working farm! Thanks Ed &amy 😊

Perfect, relaxed campsite with spectacular views.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: What an incredible place!! Spectacular views, welcoming hosts and on an idyllic working farm. We'll definitely be back.

Disliked: If I'm being iver picky, there could be more toilets for the number of pitches. But I never had to queue for more than 5 mins.

Lovely location, good facilities just a bit to far from the tent.

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
