  • Quiet site in the Serrania de Cuenca
  • A 7km drive from Cuenca city centre
  • Pool, playground, barbecue area and restaurant
'You don't see pools like this every day,' say the folk at Camping Caravaning Cuenca about their watery world on site – and sÍ, they speaketh the truth: one could wallow around this natural saltwater space for days on end. Out of the pool (finally), the campsite has a quiet and friendly vibe and covers 23 hectares surrounded by pine trees on the banks of the Júcar river, a short seven-kilometre drive from the UNESCO World Heritage City and hanging houses of old Cuenca. The modern facilities include that roomy pool, a playground, a barbecue area, free wifi and a restaurant serving simple but tasty food. A spacious area is also on hand to for walkies: sÍ, the site is dog friendly. Caravaning Cuenca has an up to date toilet block with disabled access, hot showers, baby changing facilities and baby bath tubs. And – if you can manage to get out of the pool – a Jacuzzi can be booked on site for a small extra charge.

Local attractions

Gorgeous old Cuenca is five or ten minutes from Camping Caravaning Cuenca away by car and dates back to the early eighth century. It's most famed for its Las Casas Colgadas or the Hanging Houses of Cuenca, carefully constructed in the fifteenth century over a rock above the Huecar gorge. A restaurant and the Museum of Abstract Arts are in the remaining houses these days if you want to go inside (highly recommended). Also in Cuenca (you'll need at least a couple of days), see the old tomes at the Seminary; Cuenca Cathedral and the religious art at the nearby Bishop's Palace; old Arab fortress El Castillo; the Archeological Museum, and the sculptures around San Julián's park. Around Cuenca, take the camera to the scenic spots of the Devil's Window or Palancares (Facebook smugness guaranteed), tee off at La Verda Golf Club, or make the driveworthy trip to the ancient canyon and rock formations of the Ciudad Encantada or Enchanted City. For outdoorsy days, go fishing, kayaking and canoeing in and along the Júcar river, or quad biking, climbing, canyoning, caving or horse riding in the surrounding countryside.
