  • Beachfront site 20 minutes' drive from Corigliano Calabro
  • Close to hiking, rafting and skiing in the Pollino National Park
  • On-site pizzeria, pool, tennis court, sports field and playground
If you’re sauntering around southern Italy, set up for a splendid seafront stay where you can take your pick between pool time and beach time whenever you fancy a bit of either. Village Camping Due Elle is geared up for family hols in a cracking part of Calabria, 20 minutes' drive from Corigliano Calabro. The sizeable outdoor swimming pool is the focal point, with plenty of lounging spots around too. If you’re more of a sand-and-sea sort, it’s just a short amble down to the beach for another spot in which to laze (and perhaps a salty splash around). There’s choice when it comes to the active stuff, too – the site has a tennis court and a field for ball games, and stages regular pétanque matches (a bit of healthy competition is always welcome, eh?). An activity programme adds things like beach volleyball and fitness classes, as well as evening discos for the kids, through the summer. There’s a nifty playground for them, too. You won’t need to leave the complex when thoughts turn to food, as there’s a pizza joint on site that also offers takeaways. But if you do fancy a change of scenery, there are plenty of bars and restaurants around, and you’re in for pretty views if you opt for one along the seafront. Back at base plenty of amenities are covered, including showers, toilets, a washing-up area and free wifi.

Local attractions

Lazy days around the pool and beach aren’t compulsory here, as it’s also a great base for some sightseeing… and you don’t have to go far, either. In town is a fortress that dates back to the 11th century, Castello Ducale di Corigliano Calabro (20-minute drive) – come here to browse its elegant rooms and art museum. There’s also a 15th-century bridge with arches to admire in the Ponte Canale. For more history, visit nearby Sibari, the site of the ancient city of Sybaris, to wander around the National Archeological Museum of Sibaritide (10 minutes' drive). Sibari also has an adventure park, Sibari Avventura (10 minutes), packed with treetop trails and gentler courses for those who don’t fancy anything too extreme. More kid-friendly days can be had at the AcquaPark Odissea 2000 waterpark (half an hour). A couple of national parks are nearby – Pollino National Park (which is Italy’s biggest) and Sila National Park – so there’s a bunch of sporty stuff waiting, including cross-country skiing, whitewater rafting, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and fishing.
