  • Excellent setting between Nîmes and Avignon, 50 minutes from the coast
  • Peaceful site among vineyards and spectacular green surrounds
  • A 500-metre stroll from shops and local produce sales in Cabrières
The folk at Mas des Petits Loups reckon – quite rightly – that this is a mightily well set place. Trot along to see it for yourself: this lush lodge site (see pics in the meantime) in the Gard is close to weeks' worth of attractions, activities and days out among some of France's finest settings including the Pont du Gard, the Duchy of Uzès, Nîmes and Avignon... as well as Provence, the Cévennes, Camargue, the beaches of the Mediterranean coast... Based half a kilometre from the southern France commune of Cabrières, Mas des Petits Loups is a friendly and family-friendly site with spectacular green surrounds, comely cottages, and a Languedoc-Roussillon locale between vineyards and countryside. Groups are welcome at all times for seminars, conferences and the like; in summer, the vibe is firmly family friendly, in a scenic setting under the French sun and among the scent of lavender and thyme. The site has a pool, surrounded by greenery; there's free wifi, and golfing, fishing, horse riding and canoeing are all nearby. Pick up all you need in Cabrières a short stroll away, where the shops include a bakery, a grocery store, a bar-restaurant and local producers selling fruit, veg, goats' cheese and honey.

Local attractions

Mas des Petits Loups about 25 minutes' drive from the spectacular Roman city of Nîmes, a must-see in the region for its stacks of ancient sites including its stunning amphitheatre (still used in these modern times), the Maison Carrée and the Diana temple. Outside town, the Pont du Gard aqueduct is the highest Roman aqueduct in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 40-minute drive in the other direction leads to the also-spectacular medieval and UNESCO World Heritage city of Avignon, home to the famed papal palace of the Palais des Papes as well as a 12th-century cathedral and another UNESCO bridge in the Pont Saint-Bénézet or Pont d’Avignon. The acclaimed Festival d'Avignon is held in town each July. South of the site is the Regional Natural Park of Camargue; from there, drive further south for the Mediterranean beaches of Le Grau-du-Roi, Le Grande-Motte and Carnon, all reachable within 50 to 55 minutes.
