  • Scenic site inside Sutjeska National Park with stunning valley views
  • A five-minute drive to Tjentište and an hour to Montenegro’s border
  • Restaurant and wifi on site; launch point of major hikes 30 mins away
The views from this site have to be seen to be believed (although you could always check out the pics as a pretty good indicator of what to expect...). Come to Camp Sutjeska and soak up stunning mountain scenery from a friendly family-run base in the Republika Srpska region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This Balkans base is inside Sutjeska National Park about a five-minute drive from Tjentište, a settlement known for its dramatic Valley of Heroes war memorial. It’s also about an hour from the border with Montenegro if you’re planning to peruse more nearby countries on your trip... Before getting carried away with what’s further away though, there’s also plenty to do just outside the site: nearby Tjentište has an Olympic-sized pool and the trailhead to the Skakavac waterfall is within a half an hour drive. The bottom of Maglić meanwhile – for scaling Bosnia’s highest peak – is 45 minutes away. Trnovačko lake is around here as well, a pristine heart-shaped body of water in a high-altitude setting; for other watery sights, the area around the mighty Zelengora summit is the go-to for trekking to Orlovačko lake (45 minutes’ drive). Reckon you’re going to need a helping hand getting to grips with all these potential adventures? This park’s definitely the right place for you then: the on-site team organises hiking and horse riding through the surrounding mountainous and primaeval forest landscape. If you're a thrill-seeker, ATV quad trips and white-water rafting on the Tara river might appeal. The owners of the park also have you sorted when it comes to meals: a restaurant is on site serving local dishes that you can eat alfresco with those aforementioned views to fuel your hunger for even more expeditions…

Local attractions

This park’s just off the main M20 road linking up to Bosnian destinations like Bileća with its famed lake for fishing (an hour and 15 minutes) as well as Višegrad (an hour and 40), a town on the confluence of the Drina and Rzav rivers with historical sights like the 16th-century Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge. If renowned bridges appeal head to one of the most well-known of them all in Bosnia’s capital Sarajevo, famed as the spot where Franz Ferdinand was shot sparking World War I. You could also explore the tunnels of the city’s 1990s siege and a derelict Olympic bobsleigh in this varied destination an hour and 50 minutes' drive from Camp Sutjeska...
