  • A 10-minute drive to Newgale beach; 25 minutes to St Davids
  • Walk to dog-friendly Druidston Haven beach in 15 minutes
Even in a region as blessed with fabulous views as Pembrokeshire, Shortlands Farm stands out – the Ledwith family’s 29-acre farm looks out over St Brides Bay, and camping guests have sea views from every pitch on site. This splendid spot is just a few minutes’ walk from Druidston Haven beach, one of the quieter parts of the Pembrokeshire coastline with sandy stretches, rockpools and soaring cliffs to take in (and it welcomes dogs all year round – good news if you've got a hound that needs a holiday). The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes by too, so you can take a stroll to other places like Broad Haven and Little Haven for more beaches and some seafront places to eat. The pitches are generously spaced around the edge of the field, so you’ll have plenty of space to spread out and set up your barbecue or firepit for an evening grill while you watch the sunset over the sea. Dogs are welcome to join in the fun, as are families – there’s lots of space set aside for kids (and adults…) to play in the field. For practicalities like supermarket shopping you may like to head into Haverfordwest (10 minutes’ drive), or you could walk to the local farm shop at Nolton Cross for foodie supplies (15 minutes).

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The location of Shortlands Farm is ideal, north and south coast of Pembrokeshire is within easy reach, with St Brides Bay being a 10-15min walk. The site is extremely quiet, spacious and clean with the pitches spaced far enough apart to not feel crowded but close enough for a sense of community. Every pitch has a sea view and are able to see the stunning sunsets of the bay. The hosts are more than happy to help and respond very quickly. The facility’s exceed expectations for your average camper, very clean and well maintained. Also The Druidstone Hotel is within a 10minutes walk from the site, incredible food and drink with a view to boot! Will definitely be returning to Shortlands Farm next year.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The pitches were massive and loads of space between them which was lovely. They were very well kept and peaceful. The views were incredible and each pitch was nice and flat. Being miles off the beaten track was just perfect, no traffic noise, just the occasional cow!

Disliked: My pitch called chough was by the hedge so unless you stood up I couldn't enjoy fully the promised sea view. The toilet block was quite a way from the electric pitches and shared which I didn't like. I'm glad I had a portable toilet! Be prepared for the miles of single track roads to get there! And also travel down to find beaches and things to do.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Walking distance to a beach and large spacious pitches. The owners could easily triple their capacity but have prioritised space over profits. The middle the field is left empty so our kids had loads of space to play. We played football, badminton and flew our kite!

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Pembrokeshire’s perhaps most well known for its stunning coastline (there’s a good reason why it’s home to the UK’s only national park dedicated entirely to coastal landscapes…) A good place for Shortlands Farm guests to start is Newgale beach (10 minutes’ drive) – it’s got great waves for surfers (plus kit hire and lessons) but it’s also a great place for a stroll or paddle. Stop by too at Broad Haven (10 minutes) and the pretty harbour at Solva (20 minutes) en route to St Davids (25 minutes). The UK’s smallest city has some lovely shops and cafés to visit between tours of the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, and it’s also the launch point for boat trips to Ramsey Island to see sea birds and seals. If the kids need something different from scenery chasing, try Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm (25 minutes), thrill rides at Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) or animal encounters at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (35 minutes).
