  • Quiet Cornish farm site with spectacular sea views
  • A mile from Mawnan Smith; 15 minutes' drive from Falmouth
  • Play area; footpath to the beach, 1.5 miles away
'The best of Cornwall at your fingertips' is how the Penwarne Campsite team describe their patch. A description that you'd be hard-pressed to quibble with given its stunning sea views, easy access to Falmouth and area of outstanding natural beauty location. Penwarne Campsite makes a credible claim to being one of the oldest in all of Cornwall, having welcomed guests here since the 1920s. The site grounds have been worked by the Mann family since 1886, so your hosts are long-standing locals with lots of insider tips about the surrounding area. Although the farm is located inland, Maenporth beach is a mile and a half away and can be directly accessed via a well-maintained footpath. Walks in local woodlands are also within easy reach, and when it's time for a pint you're also just a mile from Mawnan Smith's village pub. On-site facilities are another of Penwarne Campsite's strong points: guests have a play area, toilet block and shower. Well-behaved dogs are allowed here too, and you're more than welcome to set up a barbecue and campfire (as long as a few simple safety rules are followed, of course).

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Relaxed. Peaceful. Lovely views. No-one bothering you. Parking with the sheep on the field. Nice place to be🙂

Disliked: The toilet and shower cubicles have a gap at the bottom and no door on the block. Was expecting small animals to run under my feet. (Mouse, squirrel etc) wellington boots would solve this or a door to the block 😉

Liked: Lovely view, nice and open space. Choice of wherever to go and not many people. Ok facilities

Disliked: We weren’t aware we’d be camping in a sheep field as on the website it said they may escape. There was so much sheep poo everywhere. Our tent got covered and clothes and car

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Great view from the field of the sea in the distance. Site remained well drained despite torrential rain!! Good breakfast at on site cafe and also work up appetite for breakfast/lunch at Maenporth via a shortish walk across the fields and through the wood.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Our stay was fantastic, lovely amount of space, great facilities, I have seen a few bad reviews on this place but for the money they charge I thought it was brilliant, toilets and showers where all clean and well kept. Yes a couple of cobwebs but it was a cheap camping site I think some people are expecting to much but unwilling to pay the extra. My opinion was this place is fantastic and I would definitely book here again.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: They had horses, cows and sheep locally which the kids loved. The cafe on site was lovely. The owners was lovely and understanding.

Disliked: There was animal poop everywhere even on the tent pitches so the kids couldn't really run around freely because the open grass was full of it. There isn't much around locally for kids and the park onside was a little wooden park that was rotten and broken with rusty nails that my little boy cut his leg open on. (This needs fixing isn't safe for kids) The owners daughter is abit of a bully she goes round telling all the kids she will get her mom to chuck them off the farm (heard by an adult so isn't hearsay) she hovers alot at the park an by the horses and is mean to smaller children.

Local attractions

It's a pretty place, is Penwarne. Located in a coastal area of outstanding natural beauty, this site has plenty of choice for excursions around and about. Sticking locally, you might like to sail by ferry over the Helford (five minutes' drive) for trips to secluded spots like Bosahan Cove, or to stay on the north bank of the river to survey the seasonal blooms at Trebah Garden (also five minutes). Green-fingered guests have lots more foliage to take in around this part of the coast – there's Glendurgan Garden (five minutes) next to the South West Coast Path and the jungle-like oasis at Penjerrick (five minutes), both of which can be comfortably reached on foot from base if you fancy a stretch of the legs. Of course, peaceful days homing in on all that horticulture might not be the best of bets if you've got kids to entertain. Handily, this part of Cornwall is also full of family-friendly attractions like Flambards Theme Park (25 minutes) and the Lappa Valley's steam railway (45 minutes), which can be easily interspersed with the calm and quiet of Kynance Cove (40 minutes) or ice creams on Falmouth seafront (15 minutes).
