  • Friendly West Sussex campsite with handy indoor space
  • A 10-minute drive from Selsey and Chichester
  • Indoor 'beach' area with sandpit, books and games
Find your new happy place at Creative Camping, an aptly named campsite close to the West Sussex coastline. Located midway between Selsey on the coast and the historic city of Chichester, this laidback spot is a top pick for families and friends looking for a getaway somewhere just that little bit different. As well as the well-maintained pitches and green outdoor area, Creative Camping has a spacious indoor area for guests to enjoy. Come and relax on the indoor 'beach', sit back on one of the comfy chairs, let the kids play in the sandpit or take your pick of the games and books on offer. The indoor space also has a lounge and dining area, a kitchen with sinks, two toilets, two showers, a changing room and a baby changing table. When you spend time outside, you'll appreciate the site's quiet location away from the road and the natural feel of the place – sit back and relax and it's quite likely that you'll see birds of prey flying overhead. Dogs are welcome here and there's easy access to footpaths in the local area for their walks. The sensible use of open fires and barbecues is allowed, and guests can make use of the site's big barbecue and pizza oven. Handily, Sidlesham village centre, where there is a pub, is about a quarter of a mile away to the north.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very clean showers and toilets, lovely shop, excellent facilities for young children. It has a nice indoor area with comfy seating, which is crucial when the weather is lousy! There are so many nice, practical and thoughtful touches, such as a dressing table for applying your morning makeup, kitchen utensils to borrow if you've forgotten something crucial, nappy sacks at a baby changing table, books to borrow or take away, fire pits to borrow for toasting marshmallows. There's a lovely little shed made up as an old fashioned kitchen, with outdoor sofas. Overall, a lovely friendly site.

Disliked: Not sure there is anything. I could hear the road a bit, as we were over that side, but it's a 30mph limit, so not too bad and besides, that's not the fault of the campsite, as they can't change it!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: No one else was there so it was extremely peaceful. The trees on the site were beautiful. The owners were very friendly. Squirrels jumped on the roof of the motorhome which was very sweet ( do not happen often and not at night though which was good).

Disliked: Shower was a little small but worked well.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: What a fun place for families to camp and hang out in close proximity to Wittering and the beaches. Really liked the community feel of the camp site, the amenities on site that were all self service and well set out, the friendly/local feel of the other campers on site, the toys and things to keep young children amused, how quiet the site was.

Disliked: Very little to dislike - the site is obviously well used and a little rough around the edges. I think this is fine and adds to the charm but not sure it's for everyone. With a 3 year old who made the most of the amenities I couldn't help but notice a fair few 'hazards' which although had warning signs on did give me a feeling that it might not be safe to give her the freedom we'd have liked to and felt like issues that would need to be solved for in time.

Liked: What a great quirky Site. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. There is a little shop on site, where you can buy logs, kindling, firelighters for the firepits provided by the site. They also have A pizza oven & BBQ'S you can borrow for free, chairs and tables and sunloungers all available. There are so many good points about this site. Lots of places to wash up, inside and outside showers, always hot. If you have young children this site is like a play centre, toys, books, crafts, games, sandpit..... playhouse..... prams, bikes, ride ons, go carts and more. Close to Dell Quay, with a great Pub, walks and Quay side, we ordered Ubers and they arrived quickly each time. All round a tidy, clean site wirh great facilities and lots of extras we didn't expect. Definitely will rebook this quirky site.

Local attractions

There are all sorts of coastal corners you'll want to explore while in West Sussex, from the wildlife haven wetlands of RSPB Pagham Harbour (five minutes' drive) to the cheerful seafront at Selsey (10 minutes) or the sandy stretches of West Wittering (15 minutes). Slightly further afield, it's easy to get to other maritime spots, whether you fancy a day trip to the seaside resort and pleasure harbour at Littlehampton (30 minutes) or want to walk around the historic dockyards of Portsmouth (30 minutes). Jaunts to the bright lights and vintage shops of Brighton (an hour and 10 minutes) are also on the cards if you fancy a really special day out. There's also much to see and do inland locally, with many of the prettiest parts of the South Downs National Park just a short drive away. While you're in the area, make sure to check out pretty historic country estates like Arundel Castle (25 minutes), and if ancient history's your thing you can make tracks for the mosaics and columns of Fishbourne Roman Palace (15 minutes).
