Liked: Loved the cosiness of the cabin, and the fact there were powerbanks provided to charge devices like mobiles while staying there, and also the fact that there were cooler boxes with a supply of ice packs to use to store any food products.

Camping pod

Liked: Every detail has been thought of in terms of how the pods were kitted out (except salt - that would be really helpful!). The battery pack was totally sufficient for 2 nights for two people including charging a phone and a watch; we saw lots of people swapping their packs but not sure why as we didn’t need to. The water was hot, the bed was comfortable and the pod was warm at night. There’s no WiFi but we both had mobile signal (Vodafone and O2) so it didn’t matter. All in all it was great!

Disliked: Not a dislike, more of a warning. As others have said it’s a bit of an unusual location as it’s in the middle of a housing estate. It’s a drive to anywhere (except the local beach which our dog loved) and the local pub needs to be booked for Sunday lunch as it’s popular and we were turned away. Also there’s not a lot of space between each pod so the site does have a bit of a communal feel - not a problem for us as we were out a lot but it’s maybe not everyone’s thing. Also, there weren’t many ice packs in the freezer - we were only able to get one for the whole two days but we didn’t have a lot to keep cool so we managed.

From the manager: Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear that you found the pods well-equipped and comfortable for your stay. We're glad the battery pack met your needs and that you had a cozy and warm experience. It's great to know that the hot water, comfortable bed, and reliable mobile signal contributed to your positive experience. We appreciate your feedback about the lack of salt and the limited availability of ice packs. We will make sure to address these points to enhance the convenience for our future guests. Regarding the location, we understand it might seem a bit unconventional being situated with houses near us. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the local beach and the nearby pub, and we'll remind future guests to book in advance for popular dining times. The communal feel of the site is something we strive to balance, and we appreciate your understanding. Thank you once again for your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you and your dog back for another enjoyable stay! Warm regards, Gavin Baxter Manager

Liked: Nothing!!

Disliked: I wished I had read reviews closely before booking. Simply speaking there are no accessible woods, it is a small inaccessible scrubland area with some trees surrounded by a housing estate. The solar power barely managed one poor light bulb for an hour and a half. There were no redeeming factors at all. I left the following day to stay at a hotel. This is NOT a campsite, it reminded me of what i can only think a refugee camp would be like. The accommodation was very dirty on arrival. The pictures are not accurate and paint it to be something it is not. Please if you are a family i would highly recommend you look elsewhere maybe Silverdale or Keswick. All in all DO NOT THINK THIS IS A CAMPSITE!!

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay. We are deeply sorry to hear about your experience and regret that it did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable environment for all our guests, and we clearly fell short in this instance. We apologize if you misinterpreted our site and i do not think reading the 2 negative reviews from 20 would of changed your opinion. Our intention is to offer a rustic and off-grid experience, & all descriptions accurately conveyed the nature of the setting, although we can appreciate that sometimes the excitement of booking a stay can mean some details are not read thoroughly. We will review and update our pictures and descriptions to ensure they provide further better representation in future. Regarding the solar power issues, we are sorry to hear about the problems with the lighting. We are looking into this matter to improve the reliability of our solar-powered amenities had this been mentioned at the time we have a call out team to correct such issues. Cleanliness is a top priority for us, and we are concerned to hear about the condition of the accommodation upon your arrival. We have already addressed this with our cleaning team to ensure such an oversight does not happen again. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve. We hope compensation provided helped you to find more accommodation for the remainder of the stay. Sincerely, Gavin Baxter Manager

Liked: I love this site and this is the second time I've been here. It's so peaceful and well placed for me to visit South Walney Nature reserve. This was the first time in a yurt and although it's very lovely inside and equipped with everything you need the outdoor shower was not for me, obviously a personal preference. You do have use of a bathroom inside West Point House so you don't go without if outdoor bathing isn't your style. I will be back but unfortunately not in a yurt

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback and for choosing to stay with us again! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and found our location convenient for visiting South Walney Nature Reserve. It's great to know that you appreciated the comfort and amenities of the yurt, even though the outdoor shower wasn't to your liking. We understand that outdoor bathing can be a unique experience, and we're glad you were able to make use of the indoor facilities at West Point House. We're delighted to hear that you plan to return, and we look forward to welcoming you back. Please feel free to let us know your preferences for your next visit, and we'll do our best to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Warm regards, Gavin Baxter Manager

Local attractions

Keen to get out and about discovering the coastline? Walk the circular Walney Island Coast Path (five minutes’ drive) past beaches, rolling dunes and salt marshes, or join the Morecambe Bay Cycleway (20 minutes), stopping off by the reed beds at RSPB Leighton Moss for the chance to spot otters, marsh harriers and red deer. Wildlife is never far away in Cumbria. Get up close to red pandas and encounter big cats during keeper talks and feeding sessions at South Lakes Safari Zoo (20 minutes), or take the ferry from Roa Island (20 minutes) to South Walney Nature Reserve to see more rare animals at Cumbria’s only seal colony. Cross to Piel Island (also from Roa Island) for a ramble around the shoreline and a visit to the 14th-century castle ruins before popping into the Ship Inn to sample local brews and island-caught fish dishes. There’s another impressive ruin to explore at Furness Abbey (15 minutes), and the family-friendly Dock Museum in Barrow-in-Furness (five minutes) has lots of summer events with music and dancing.
