  • Peaceful setting overlooking the Cheshire Plain, close to Whitchurch
  • On National Cycle Route 47, and near Sandstone Trail walkers’ path
  • Within easy reach of pubs with gin nights and authentic curries
Looking for a peaceful spot where you don’t have to sacrifice the luxury of nearby pubs and restaurants? Head to Cheshire site Marbury Camp and Lodge, where you can look out over the Cheshire Plain by day and devour pub grub by night – the team on site can point you towards gin evenings and excellent curries… a winning combo after a day of exploring. Speaking of exploring, there are enough walks and bike routes around to ensure you get your fill of countryside. The site is right on a national cycle route so make sure you pack your bike helmet – the site owners can help with bike hire and a map of the local cycle routes too. If walking is more your thing you can link up with the Sandstone Trail for 34 miles of unbroken, and often elevated, walking. The outdoor adventures don’t stop there, as this place is a great base for golfing, shooting and fishing as well, with all found within around four miles of the site. Worn out just by reading the activities dotted around? There’s also plenty to do if you’re after a more chilled day. The nearby local market towns of Whitchurch (three miles away) and Nantwich (eight miles) have various market days and plenty of shopping, eating and drinking options. Supplies can also be sourced closer to home in the village of Wrenbury, a mile away. Site amenities include a shower block and chemical disposal, and there's also the option to hire firepits (subject to availability).

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Pitch size, facilities and setting.

Disliked: The folk on both sides of us had fire pits burning all night and, as it was windy, our van ended up stinking of smoke. As the site was pretty full, I don’t think the amount of toilets and showers were really adequate, especially as there were a lot of tents. These two things might put us off staying again, especially at busy times.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Excellent site, very clean toilets and showers, great area to wash dishes with hot water, free use of freezer to store frozen food or refreeze your ice blocks. Separate dog walking field. Over looks beautiful scenery. Fire pit hire is available. Friendly owners. Will definitely be staying again. Small shop on site, I did not use so not sure what's available. Pizza's available to order on Saturdays cooked on site in the owners pizza oven, delicious.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: We loved our weekend here, we booked this for my daughters birthday with friends so in total there was 18 of us camping, the kids had space to play in the field and they loved the tree when it was lit up, us adults were impressed with the facilities the toilet and showers are close to the camping area which with young children was great and Daves pizzas on the Saturday night were just great definitely highly recommended from us all.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Welcoming site, well laid out, clean amenities, freezer usage which was great as ehu not required. Mid week stay so had place to myself virtually, amazing views and so peaceful.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike apart from mother nature not supplying enough sunshine throughout the visit apart from one scorcher which made up for everything

From the manager: Thanks for the review. We can always arrange a lift for you to the Swan, which is about a 30min walk. There's also the GoToo bus up to 9pm. We also have a selection of beer, wine, gin and cider on site. Cheers, D

Liked: Great rural location, site was clean, tidy and quiet.

Disliked: Would have liked to have an allocated pitch number rather than a first come first serve.

From the manager: Aloha, Thanks for that. I'm not sure why not giving you a choice has made your experience worse. What I do agree is that we need to delineate the camping spaces more permanently as campers often move the markers to make way for their titanic bouncy castle tent, complete with 6m gazebo and 8m wind break. Cheers D

Local attractions

Marbury Camp and Lodge is on the National Cycle Network's Route 47, a fine option for leisure riders, serious biking types and all those in between. There are also walks in all directions, with the Sandstone Trail walkers’ haven around 12 miles from the site. For a spot of sightseeing, set out to soak up the culture at a number of churches and castles nearby. For some gothic architecture head to Combermere Abbey (around 10 minutes' drive) or Cholmondeley Castle Gardens (about 15 minutes). The medieval Beeston Castle (20 minutes) comes with spectacular views and a 40-acre woodland park to amble about in. Several of the surrounding towns have a lot to offer here. As well as Whitchurch there's also Nantwich (15 minutes), known for its listed buildings and annual cheese show (yum). Crewe is also a short drive away (about half an hour) if you still haven’t got your fill of eating, drinking, shopping and sightseeing.
