  • Peaceful countryside site set amid 200 acres of paddocks and woodland
  • Five minutes' drive to Moreton-in-Marsh; 30 to Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Bus stop nearby and events and activities hosted on site
On the edge of the Cotswolds, Wolford Wood is a peaceful site with tons of natural beauty. First of all, it is bordered by its very own 150-acre ancient woodland. Secondly, its wild meadows are a great spot for recharging and getting back to nature. To top it all off, it also has a good set of facilities for a wholesome family get-together or friends going to the countryside… The wild and managed English deciduous woodland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, protected by the law and studied by professionals and amateurs throughout the year. It's home to a whopping 2,500 different species of flowers, fungi and fauna. The site also has an additional 50 acres of pastureland and wildflowers, plus five miles of wild and mown tracks. Communal facilities on site include a toilet and shower block (with hand soap and toilet roll). The team also hosts events and activities, from guided woodland walks, beekeeping, and moth studies to forest bathing (shinrin-yoku), tie-dye and making clay faces. Moreton-in-Marsh is the closest town to Wolford Wood, a five-minute drive away or a 45- to 55-minute walk away to be precise. It has pubs, restaurants and cafés, as well as two large supermarkets and a range of boutique shops and services. The town has a train station with connections to Oxford, London Paddington, Worcester and Malvern. From the bus stop 20 minutes' walk away from the site, hourly buses will take you to Cotswold villages and towns including Stow-on-the-Wold (in 20 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water (in 35 minutes). Northwards, Stratford-Upon-Avon is half an hour's drive away, or there is a bus from Moreton-in-Marsh which takes 50 minutes.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Beautiful and peaceful location near a forest, and not too far from local attractions and amenities. The firepit hire and logs were a great addition, as well as the washing up and shower facilities. Parking was plentiful.

Disliked: Wheelbarrows could do with updating and repairing as the ideas is very convenient, however almost all of them were either loose screws and handles, or punctured tyres which made them difficult to use.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Great campsite. A very back-to-basics approach; really nice to get away from the modern world and enjoy a simpler existence for a couple of days. The location is great, too, and local towns/villages like Chipping Norton are beautiful places to visit.

Disliked: There was nowhere to put rubbish. I do get the ‘take your rubbish home’ approach, but we had nowhere to put food waste etc for two days. The toilets/showers were quite busy in the morning - it seemed there wasn’t quite enough facilities for the number of people the campsite could accept.

Liked: Love the wild field for camping and so much space to be away from other tents. Really handy there was a communal fridge over by the showers and fire pit and logs were great.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Beautiful peaceful location and great to be pitched up alongside all the wild flowers. The fact that the pitch locations are spread out over such a large area is fantastic for us as we like to not feel overcrowded. Also great to find a site that is tents only and not full of great big motor homes. Makes the experience more enjoyable. The communal kitchen area came in extremely useful and the toilet block was perfectly clean and tidy with fully functioning showers. Massive thanks to our host who came to check we were getting on ok on the first day. Such a good location for visiting the local towns and villages of the Cotswolds, and the very popular Diddly Squat Farm.

From the manager: Hi There, Thank you for leaving us a review - it is very much appreciated! We completely agree, sometimes motorhomes and caravans make a camping experience less wild and adventurous which does not reflect the experience we are trying to make at Wolford Wood. Hopefully you didn't have to queue for hours to visit Diddly Squat! All The Best, The Wolford Wood Team
