Local attractions

A short walk away from the property you'll find Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, where timeless blockbuster Jurassic Park was filmed. Appointed by UNESCO as both a World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve, Prairie Creek is edged by sandy beaches and filled with huge California redwood trees and open meadows grazed by herds of Roosevelt elk. You've got several good whale watching spots along the coastline and lots of pretty picnic areas set among Prairie Creek's woodland, plus 75 miles of hiking and biking trails and a self-guided nature trail along which you're likely to spot black bears, bobcats, mountain lions, spotted owls and marbled murrelets. Drive up Requa Road to the Klamath River overlook for spectacular sunset views over the estuary and the Pacific Ocean, or go on a jet boat tour along the Klamath River. Also within easy reach are the Trees of Mystery at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and the rather unusual drive-through redwood, the Klamath Tour Thru Tree.
