Set between the Atlantic coastline and mountain foothills of Parque Natural da Arrábida in the fortified-wine region of Setúbal, Kampaoh Sesimbra is a peaceful family hideaway far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Modern and well-maintained facilities on site include pre-erected tents (just arrive and get moved in) with well-designed interiors and alfresco seating areas shaded by trees. Once you’ve settled, you can play tennis or beat the kids at mini golf, swim laps of the pool and – at the end of a fun-filled day – toast your holiday at the bar/restaurant. As well as having excellent family facilities, Kampaoh Sesimbra is strategically located near a number of must-see attractions. Sesimbra’s sandy beaches (both about 15 minutes’ drive) are popular spots for swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic and topping up the tan, while culture vultures can tour Sesimbra Castle (also 15 minutes), a medieval fortress with spectacular views over the town to the ocean. Nature lovers can take themselves off to Parque Natural da Arrábida for days hiking and cycling among its rugged landscapes and lush forests, or dip into the sea in hidden coves. Other outdoor activities nearby include bird watching, but if even that sounds like too much exertion, simply bag yourself a lounger by the swimming pool and relax in the sun back at base camp.
