If surrounding yourselves with natural views is part of the plan for your holiday, take a look at EuroParcs Maasduinen. This well-appointed site is on the edge of the Maasduinen National Park, with mature forests all around and lots of trees and greenery throughout the site to make sure you feel like you’re entirely immersed in nature. Pick a spot at this Limburg site close to Belfeld (about 10 minutes from the centre by bike) and you’ll be staying close to one of its lakes, with the opportunity to go out for woodland walks just by the property. Perhaps you’ll walk all the way to Germany? (Not that much of an achievement – the border is only a few hundred metres away – but a good holiday story anyway…) You may like to spend your days here exploring the nearby cities of Venlo and Roermond, taking walks in the national park or wandering by the River Meuse. There’s also the option of hiring bikes or e-choppers on site to tour on two wheels. Or you may simply prefer to relax on site, sunbathing and paddling at the lake beach, making use of the indoor pool or taking some me-time at the fitness/wellness area (with an infrared sauna and gym). A sports field, playground, go-kart rental and programme of kids’ activities are on hand to keep active young ones busy, and the site also has a snack bar and restaurant to make sure everyone stays well fed.

  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
  • Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
  • Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
  • Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.
  • No gas barbecues allowed.
  • No charcoal barbecues allowed.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: This is a beautifully organised and maintained holiday park, with first rate facilities. Set on the edge of extensive woodland with clearly marked walking and bike trails it is very peaceful even at the height of summer. The rental units are organised around the lakes and in distinct clusters so you are never aware of more than a couple of other units at any one time. The on site restaurant and bar provides excellent food at a very reasonable price whilst the large beach fronted lake and indoor pools provide entertainment for families. There is bike hire on site and even a self service hire of paddle boards. Younger children have a choice of play grounds to occupy them.

Disliked: The only issue is with the caravan and camping field itself. It does not drain easily and the ground alternates between hard compact mud and grass and a large pools of standing water. The pitches would benefit from being tided up, clearly marked out and preferably having some form of all weather/hard standing. Doing this would earn them the 'luxury' label presently attached and make it better for those pitching there.

Tiny House microlodge

Liked: Goede matrassen heerlijk geslapen. Praktische keuken, basic uitgerust wat voor ons helemaal OK was. Mooie omgeving. Park is zeer goed verzorgd.

Disliked: De naastgelegen vuilnis/glasbak.

Liked: Receptionist made us feel very welcomed. Restaurant staff were very nice, spoke good English. The beach is nice and clean. Pitches are lovely and big, with good toilet block, plenty of hot water for showers. Good electrical hook ups, easy to refill water.

Liked: We loved the look of this place as soon as we drove in. Beautiful man made beach. A very peaceful place to camp.

Disliked: It’s still under construction, but it wasn’t a problem.

Disliked: No shop on site other than some limited basics behind reception and limited opening hours. You had to drive to get groceries. Noise from other campers after midnight.

If you’d like to see some of the area’s nature but you’re not in the mood for a long walk, how about a shorter stroll around Jochumhof Botanic Garden (10 minutes’ drive), which also has lovely views over the River Meuse? Meanwhile, if you prefer to see a bit of history as you wander, take a trip to see the well-preserved buildings in Venlo (15 minutes) or Roermond (20 minutes) – the latter also has a designer shopping village for those who’d like to splash some cash. Things to keep the kids entertained? Try a day out at BillyBird Park Drakenrijk (15 minutes), explore the various activities at Speelpark Klein Zwitserland (15 minutes) or spend some time exploring the rides, shows and themed areas at Toverland theme park (25 minutes) – which also happens to have the tallest and fastest wooden rollercoaster in the whole of Benelux. If that all sounds a bit exhausting, instead you might like to meet the animals at GaiaZoo (50 minutes) or just take a soak at Arcen thermal baths (half an hour).
