  • Over eight hectares on the scenic shores of Klempowsee
  • A 5-minute drive from Wusterhausen and 20 from Naturpark Westhavelland
  • Beach, petting zoo, sauna, restaurant and ice cream parlour
Whether you’re after quiet afternoons with little to do or activity-filled days, Campingplatz Wusterhausen – a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from Wusterhausen in Brandenburg – has it covered. Active types will be seriously chuffed here: the site’s on the shores of Klempowsee, meaning rowing, sailing and swimming are all an easy saunter from pitches. There’s boat hire at the dock, and skating across lake surfaces just requires a wait for colder weather. Ramblers, hikers and bikers are well placed too, with the edge of Naturpark Westhavelland just 20 minutes away and maps available in reception. The site hires out electric bicycles and off-road bicycles. For less busy days, stake out spots on the sandy beach for leisurely lounging, take the kids to the petting zoo. If that’s not relaxed enough, the on-site spa should do it, letting guests get their bliss on in the sauna and solarium. When it comes time for eats (and they’ll be needed to keep energy up), there’s a restaurant on site and barbecues are welcome. Finish days off with a sweet touch by calling into the ice cream parlour for after-dinner (or midday, or whenever the mood strikes) treats.

Local attractions

Start explores within easy reach of the site with a stop in Wusterhausen (five minutes’ drive from base) to look around the museum and gallery set up in a pretty Baroque town house, then hit the Kleeblatt-Städte bike path for onward pedals to the towns of Neustadt and Kyritz (and some pretty lake views along the way). There are tons more cycling routes to follow in the area (with well-marked routes and plenty of pitstops at restaurants along the way, you'll be pleased to hear), including the Sagentour around the nearby Obersee. If biking's not your bag, take your boots for a walk around one of Europe's largest heathlands in the Kyritz-Ruppiner-Heide area (particularly pretty in August and September) or paddle a canoe across the lakes of the Kyritzer Seenkette. Equestrians should trot right on over to Neustadt’s Gestütsmuseum and Kutschenmuseum 10 minutes away at the Brandenburg State Stud, where horse-drawn carriage rides and tours of the paddocks await. Other animal fans can make tracks for Tierpark Kunsterspring, 40 minutes from base, to pay a visit to the wolves, bison and wildcats, or stay a little closer to the site to watch celeb animals getting trained at Filmtierschule Harsch (15 minutes). For a veritable menagerie of animals, commit to the 90-minute journey to the zoo in Berlin, then stick around the capital city for museums, palaces, galleries, an aquarium and plenty of memorials and sites from World War II and the Cold War.
