  • Quiet rural site on a working farm 10 minutes' drive from Honiton
  • A 15-minute drive from Seaton, Sidmouth and the South West Coast Path
  • Farm produce and tea room on site for homemade meals and takeaway food
Foodies who fancy a farm break, step this way… Bovey's Down Farm is a place where it’s possible to eat very well indeed. This rural site on a working beef farm in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 10 minutes’ drive from Honiton. And with that setting comes some splendid feasting material: pick up home-cooked cakes, pies, traditional pasties and homemade burgers from the farmhouse kitchen to eat at the picnic area, or settle in for drinks, lunches, cream teas and evening meals in the tea room or beer garden. You can also acquire bread, ribeye steaks and gluten-free sausages from the site for an evening barbecue or campfire brekkie. Once suitably fed and watered, there’s plenty to do nearby: you can get down to the Devon coast (and the resorts of Sidmouth and Seaton) in about 15 minutes’ drive, get out and about for walks/bike rides on the many country lanes and bridleways in the area or play a round of golf a couple of miles away. Getting a taste of farm life is pretty straightforward too: guests can join owner Gerald for a walking tour to meet the Aberdeen Angus cattle, ducks and hens and pick up tips on the wildlife that can be spotted around the place (lots of birdlife and the occasional fox or badger…) Facilities on site include toilets, showers, a launderette, a washing-up area and a free wifi connection to help you plan all those days out.

Liked: Site was quiet, great views and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast was good as well. Showers and toilets were ok for our needs

Disliked: As it’s our first time using a motorhome we have nothing to compare against but everything we expected was good. Nothing to dislike for an overnight stop but not sure we’d spend more than 1 night here as it’s a bit isolated but we knew that anyway.

From the manager: Good morning, thankyou for taking the time to review your stay here. Now the summer season is over I suppose parking on a farm would appear more isolated , it don't to us, with the local pub being under 2 miles (we also have a bar on site including local cider and ale pool table & darts.) and food in our tearoom/restaurant 6 days & 3 evenings per week . Kitchen door / shop sales the same. Honiton 4 miles and the coast 5 miles. Many motorhomes also bring bicycles to enjoy the countryside. Being your first MH trip it would be a big change to everyday life. It was lovely to meet you and cooking your breakfast, we would be pleased to see you come back again one day. Regards from Gerald & Pam + Boveys Down team.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Beautiful site and an ideal location to explore the area. The owners Gerald and Pam were charming and friendly hosts. Clean toilets and nice hot showers. The campers fridge/freezers and microwave were very useful. Sensibly priced 'Full English' breakfast set me up (restaurant closed Tuesdays but was aware). Hot water in the rustic covered washing up area. Fresh milk & eggs in the restaurant. Was on a motorcycle trip and sadly endured some atrocious rain during most of my stay - very surprised the site wasn't waterlogged so must be well drained land. Will definitely return.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Lovely view

Disliked: Lack of breakfast facilities

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good afternoon. We are pleased you enjoyed the view. Although as you were a late arrival (eta 10pm) you probably missed the evening sun, but the late arrival pitch I emailed has beautiful sunrise position. I wonder what time you arrived down for breakfast as we served them from 8.30am until about 11am then moved into coffee and cake followed by lunch from 12 noon, afternoon tea etc. We fed many campers breakfast that day. We look forward to seeing you in the future. Bovey's Down Farm

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The view, toilet /shower block

Disliked: Not a dislike but rather a preference- Not being able to choose own pitch (would have preferred not to be next to the rope swing) 3pm check in. A bit rigid

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good evening and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are very happy you enjoyed the camp site and saying nice things. FYI a few details. Pitch selection. I/we put a lot of thought into every pitch allocation on a daily basis. There are a lot of reasons for each individual decision. Yours being a non electric booking meant the top edge somewhere and most times when possible if there are younger persons in the group we aim to go that side of the site to encourage children to interact, football , rope swing woodland fun etc. Maybe our choice was not for your family but we do try. Check in times. are on the pitch up web site and booking confirmation. 3pm to 7pm ,our 4 hour window works for most ,and we are grateful when people understand that a smooth running of the farm & campsite can only happen when people kindly respect this. Campers check out is 12noon so people can enjoy a relaxed pacing up time if they wish. We hope to see you back again one day. Kind regards, Gerald and Pam,

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Everything about the site is amazing! The toilets are clean and well maintained. The site is small and friendly which makes your stay more enjoyable! Our 4 boys played all week on the rope swings and have now made some amazing friends! The pitches are well spaced out and are on a slight slope but the views across the hills are perfect, especially first thing in the morning when the mist is lifting. Waking up to the sound of the cows and geese really made our stay (the kids enjoyed going over to watch them). There is a little road noise but it’s mostly quiet and to be honest what campsite doesn’t have a little road noise? The site is in a prime location, we ended up visiting 5 beaches in the 5 days we were there and they we’re all within a 30/40minute drive (including roadworks). We absolutely loved our stay and are hoping to be back next year

Disliked: Nothing other than us not booking to stay longer!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello & thankyou for such a first class review. We look forward to seeing you here again next year and your boys back having so much fun Until then stay safe & happy 2025. Gerald and Pam.

Local attractions

Once you’ve met the animals on site, get set to say hi to some more furry pals at The Donkey Sanctuary (10 minutes’ drive) before greeting some rather more exotic beasts at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (20 minutes) and Yarak Birds of Prey (half an hour). Trading countryside for coast is a fine idea for a day or two as well – it’ll take you around 15 minutes to drive down to Seaton or Sidmouth for beach days, paddles and strolls on the South West Coast Path. Lovely Lyme Regis (25 minutes) is another fab option – sign up for fishing trips here and you might be lucky enough to take home a fistful of mackerel for tea. Got a bit more time to fill? How about a day of horse riding (five minutes), floral wanders at Burrow Farm Gardens (20 minutes) and Bicton Park Botanical Gardens (25 minutes) or a whole heap of outdoor rides, indoor soft play areas and shows at Crealy Theme Park (half an hour)? Lyme Bay Winery is 20 minutes away too, should you need a tipple to go with your evening barbecue…
