  • Small basic grass site on a 400-acre farm a mile from Landrake
  • Plymouth, Looe and several beaches within a 20-minute drive
  • Spacious pitches with barbecues allowed; pub 20 minutes' walk away
It’s a very simple setup at Higher Church Meadow Camping, in the sleepy hamlet of St Erney, but what it lacks in facilities it certainly makes up for in space, peace and gorgeous rural views… This small site is on the edge of a 400-acre mixed farm, surrounded by excellent scenery and well away from light pollution to ensure you’ll have great views of the stars by night. Pitches here are pleasingly spacious and have access to various essentials including portable toilets, a cold water tap and rubbish disposal. The folk up at the farmhouse can refreeze ice packs on request, and will let you use the washing machine (for a small charge) if you’ve managed to get mucky while out and about. There are no campfires allowed here but barbecues are fine if they’re raised off the ground. Pick up supplies for barbecues or picnics at the shop in Landrake, a mile away; there’s also a pub up there if you fancy an evening out. More shops and other facilities are available in Saltash, 10 minutes’ drive away. Getting out and about should be straightforward from this farm site – it’s a mile from here to the A38 for outings further west in Cornwall or heading east towards Plymouth. It’s not far to the coast, either: you can reach Looe or Portwrinkle beach with 20 minutes’ drive. Back at base, it’s worth leaving a bit of time to have a stroll around the farm to greet some of the animals.
