  • Laidback, old-fashioned site by the New Forest National Park
  • Within walking distance of Milford on Sea and its beachfront
  • Family orientated site with large open spaces for games; dogs welcome
Go on and treat yourself to an old-school break at Muddycreek Farm in Hampshire, where there are unlimited pitch sizes and gorgeous big open spaces for games like rounders and badminton. With ponies in the adjacent field that guests can meet at dinnertime, this is a very laidback, friendly place to stay with plenty of space for any kids to let off steam. The site is well-placed for days at the seaside or walking through woodlands. It's on the edge of the New Forest National Park and a 15-minute walk from the village of Milford On Sea. The beach is just a 25-minute walk away, and more beaches (as well as pubs and restaurants) are all within easy reach. There's also a market every Saturday on Lymington high street, which is a 15-minute drive away. Guests can park or pitch up wherever they like and easily stay together with family and friends. Dogs are also welcome. Friday nights are pizza nights at Muddycreek Farm, and on other nights, feel free to set up a campfire for the whole family. Amenities on site include hot showers, proper flushing toilets and a washing-up area.

Primitive grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Large site with plenty of space to pitch a tent. Clean toilets, similar to the VIP toilets at festivals Only 5 showers but didn't have a problem with accessing one when needed. Might be a bit cold if the weather isn't too good but ok for us this weekend. Short walk into Milford on sea where there is a bakery, a few pubs and a small co-op. Can buy wood onsite and have a fire in an evening which was nice

Disliked: see above re showers

From the manager: Thanks for the great review. With regards to the showers, we can adjust the temperature either way to take into account the weather 😀

Primitive grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The campsite was packed out at a busy time of year, but everyone without exception was so friendly and respectful and the site has a really lovely chilled vibe. The site is totally level but quite open and exposed - the edges are mostly just a wooden or barbed wire fence. I didnt feel comfortable setting up in the middle of the field but finally managed to find a spot at the edge. The facilities are superb and It was great having separate ladies and gents toilets. Despite being busy there was never a queue. The showers were amazing and it was a welcome surprise to have hot water throughout - for handwashing, washing up and showers. Very well organised and everything spotlessly clean. Loads of space for kids to play which was lovely to see. The beach is walkable and the village of Milford on Sea is quaint and well worth a browse around, with some lovely pubs too. The people running the site are beyond helpful and friendly and were there to help and advise if needed. Logs were in plentiful supply but bring your own fire pit. There are bricks to build your own but the field is huge so takes some treks to do that. They do have wheelbarrows to help. Personally I prefer a less busy setting, but this site is perfect for families and groups of friends.

Primitive grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We really liked this campsite. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere and the people running it were very welcoming and helpful. Although it’s a pop up campsite, the facilities have been well thought out and were spotless. The ladies loos are fantastic and worth a special mention! Ponies with foals in the paddock too 😊

Primitive grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Stayed for a weekend as a random choice and had a really good experience. We liked the space given for every pitch and the friendly atmosphere.

Disliked: Although it is meant to be quiet time from 10 pm, some groups near us carried on with loud discussions round their campfires until the early hours. However this isn't anything the site can really influence.

Local attractions

The farm is within walking distance of Milford on Sea and its shingle beach: strike out from here for the walk along the cliffside path to Barton on Sea. Once there, a golf course is at the eastern edge of the village for a sedate session of teeing off, and paragliding is a popular option at the cliffs for those who want to try something a little more adrenalinalised. Another top local walk is to Hurst Castle, a mile and a half from Milford, starting off at the pretty village of Keyhaven (pub by the water here much recommended) and taking one of the regular seasonal ferries across to the old fort. Or hike or bike along to Lymington three and a half miles away, to potter around the harbour and the cafés, independent shops and cobbled streets of the Old Town. You’ll need significant time around the paths, bridleways and tracks of the New Forest too: the nearest visitor centres are at Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst, each about 25 minutes’ drive away.
