  • Small family-run campsite on a Ryedale farm in rural North Yorkshire
  • A 40-minute drive to York and 15 to the North York Moors National Park
  • Pop-up pitches on meadows; shops and pubs five minutes’ drive
A stay at Nawton Grange Camping and Caravan Park means you have all the benefits of being surrounded by glorious North Yorkshire countryside to discover, and yet you’re still within striking distance of ancient York (40 minutes’ drive), should you fancy a chance of pace and scenery. A small, family-run campsite on a farm with cattle and horses grazing peacefully in neighbouring fields, Nawton Grange offers camping on level fields surrounded by the forested hills of Ryedale, which takes in the foodie towns of Malton and Pickering and the scenic Howardian Hills. Access to the camping fields is down a driveway off a quiet rural lane, and there is plenty out space around the pitches for kids (and well-behaved dogs) to have a runaround with a ball in safety. If you need to pick up bits for a barbecue back at your tent, you have a massive choice of local produce at Beadlam Grange Farmshop and Tea Room (five minutes’ drive); you can also stroll down to Nawton village (20 minutes’ walk) to a pub offering good food and a takeaway service.

Liked: The site was quiet. Lovely views. Clean facilities. Our neighbours who are on a seasonal pitch were very friendly. Owner was friendly when she came to greet us. We didnt use the service but there was Sausages, Bacon, Eggs and Burgers that could be bought on site. Lovely pub in the village.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The site itself was small but had everything required. The scenery was gorgeous and there was some very friendly horses in the field next to our tent. The toilet block was a great size and very clean along with the shower area. Overall a very good site to camp at and well located for Helmsley.

Disliked: Only thing I could say is there wasn’t any signs to identify if it was drinking water.

Liked: Lovely place to stay, stunning views and very peaceful. Clean showers & toilets. Hot water for washing up. Great, being able to purchase barbecue packs on site. Indian restaurant not far and shops around 3 miles away. A very restful holiday and we would certainly go back.

Liked: First and foremost we would like to say thank you to Jenny for an outstanding week at nawton grange . This was our second time of visiting the campsite . No problems weather was a little unpredictable and pitched up in the rain which added to the the experience. After reading the comments about the sinks I’m 5ft 10 and did not struggle to wash up any pots . Toilets and shower block now an added bonus to the site and are well maintained and clean. We booked for 4 nights and ended up staying 6 loved every minute of it and would relish the opportunity of staying here again. Lots of space between tents, we have a 9yr old boy who loved his stay and made new friends. He loved the fact he could run around and play and loved been able to feed the horses. We also took 2 well behaved dogs and loved having new places to take them for walks. Another fantastic holiday with so many new memories and can’t wait for next yr to do it all again ⛺️🏕️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Liked: Location, good walks. Showers and toilets clean.

Disliked: Bit of a rough and ready site. Hardstanding bit lumpy and track to site has a few potholes so enter slowly.

Local attractions

Outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to fishing (five minutes), walking and cycling in the North York Moors National Park (15 minutes), rock climbing on sandstone crags at Highcliffe Nab (an hour) or sailing at Scaling Dam (40 minutes). Keen gourmets pick up treats in the delis of Malton (25 minutes) – anything from rhubarb-and-custard ice cream to macaroons and locally reared cuts of meat for the barbecue. Other pretty market towns include Helmsley (10 minutes), packed with pubs and indie shops, and Pickering (20 minutes) where you can board a vintage train for chugs across wild moorland to Whitby on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. For a taste of local history, have a wander among the romantic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, and then see them from above at National Trust - Rievaulx Terrace (both 15 minutes). Castle Howard (20 minutes) has elegant John Vanbrugh-designed rooms fun of priceless furniture to nose around, and of course York (40 minutes) is home to a famous minister, lots of museums and cobbled medieval streets.
