  • Quiet, family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Withernsea
  • Within walking distance of two wildlife-packed nature reserves
  • Aquarium and small zoo a 40-minute drive away in Hull
Calling all walkers and wildlife spotters… fancy pitching up within strolling distance of not one, but two nature reserves? That’s the deal at Garth Farm Caravan and Camping in Hollym, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Withernsea’s coast and 40 minutes from Hull. It's all trees and open fields in the surrounds of this family-run East Yorkshire site, and the pleasing rural views continue at Toffling Hill Reserve (a few minutes’ walk), a place of grassy areas, boundary trees and a shallow pond to explore. Continue your amble for a further 15 minutes to hit the woodland, meadow and open water of Hollym Carrs Reserve, where you should certainly keep an eye out for a variety of birds, mammals and insects while you wander. Supplies can be picked up in nearby Withernsea, which has a couple of supermarkets, or Patrington (a five-minute drive), where it's highly recommended that you head to the local butcher to pick up bits for a barbecue back at base. For those with a no-cooking-on-holiday rule, there’s a local pub serving food and drink, and a coffee shop dishing up homemade cakes and sandwiches at Crossroads Garden Centre; both are around 10 minutes’ walk away. Facilities here are kept on the low-key side to ensure minimal impact on the surrounds, but the basics are covered in the toilet block on site.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We really liked the location, you can walk & cycle from the site. The campsite is lovely and quiet - plenty of birdsong, though. We had an electric pitch - we liked that each pitch has its own water supply. The facilities were clean. Fresh farm eggs available to buy - really lovely eggs!! There was a chicken coop with a mother hen and clutch of chicks which we really liked, too. The owner is very attentive - great communication - which was much appreciated.

Disliked: No obvious recycling provision - seems all rubbish & recycling all goes in one bin.

From the manager: Thank you for your review - we glad you enjoyed your stay. The recycling area is next to the CDP and ash disposal next to the toilet block and chicken coop. Sorry you didn't see this while you where with us.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Loved everything about this campsite. It was practical and well set out (large pitches and clear instructions), with a friendly host who we happened to see. It was lovely and quiet as it’s down a track, but Tesco was also only 5 minutes away which was handy. We hope to become regular campers here! ❤️

Winter powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: As far as sites go this had everything that we needed. Pitches were fine. Water and ehu. We got phone signal so that helped too. Facilities clean and tidy. Would visit again.

Disliked: Not a lot really, need to use the car as it's a 50 min walk into Withernsea but other than that it's a base that's clean and tidy.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Quiet owners friendly.

Disliked: Being asked to pay the full balance eleven weeks before arriving.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your comments. However, this is the 1st time anyone has mentioned the way that we take payments. The reason that we do this is that we have found in the past that guest will book way in advance and the not turn up or cancel last minute. This leaves us with empty pitches and no time to fill them. For small sites like us this has a big impact and therefore this is the best way to reduce the risk. Please remember that you also visited on a bank holiday, during school time and most sites will require payment well in advance for this. It is disappointing when guests state that they "will not visit again or recommend us", yet we understand that the site is not for everyone. There are many of our guests that keep returning and appreciate what we offer, our low prices and the simplicity of the site. We wish you well in your future camping trips. GARTH FARM

Local attractions

Swap the rural scenes for seaside ones with a trip to Withernsea (less than 10 minutes by car). Along with arcades, shops, cafés and, of course, the beach, there’s also a lighthouse here with a museum; energetic visitors can clamber up the 144 steps to the top for pretty views. Anglers should make time for some fishing in Holmpton (less than 10 minutes), which has a couple of public fishing ponds. While you’re in the village, delve into the underground nuclear bunker at the former RAF Holmpton. Watery activities continue at Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire (40 minutes), with rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing. It’s a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds, so it’s a great spot for birdwatching, too. There are more sights to be had on dry land, such as the Elizabethan Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (35 minutes). Day trips to Hull city (40 minutes) come stacked with kid-friendly attractions, including The Deep aquarium (home to more than 3,500 marine creatures) and East Park, a public park with a small zoo and log flume ride.
