  • Family-run site in the Malvern Hills, a 10-minute drive from Ledbury
  • Eastnor Castle 10 minutes’ drive; Worcester half an hour
  • On-site fishing lakes; dogs on lead welcome; nearby hiking trails
Literally on the edge of the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (cross the B4208, and you’re within the AONB), family-run Kings Green Caravan Park is part of a working farm a 10-minute drive from Ledbury. This is a spectacular patch of Worcestershire countryside, with gentle hills, fields dotted with sheep and arable land all around. All of which is an oblique way of saying that it’s pretty quiet around these parts and that your sleep should be undisturbed by traffic noise or noisy neighbours. With the Malvern Hills well within your sights, chances are you can’t wait to lace up your boots, and with several trails starting directly from the site, you’re in for many long days of exploration. Your dog (who’s welcome at the site, as long as you keep it on a lead) should also be happy with the exercise on these hikes, which might take you to places like Golden Valley nature reserve (about an hour on foot, or five minutes by car) – or to cosy country pubs like the one in Berrow (35 minutes’ walk or a five-minute drive). Hiking not your jam? Maybe you prefer a more sedentary pursuit? The site has two fishing lakes, where (for a small daily fee) you can try catching carp, roach and other species. There's a well-maintained toilet and shower block (plus facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette with tumble dryer and iron. Shower tokens are required to use the shower, and there's also a cash deposit required for the toilet and shower block keys. If you need to use the laundry or the washing-up area, you will also need to pay in cash.

Liked: Clean and quiet. The pitches were large and well maintained even though it was very very boggy. Only reason for 4 stars as was we like a location where we can walk to a local pub for some food or a drink. This doesnt detract that site was very good. Just lacked a that extra bit for us. Would recomend though if you wanted a chilled out weekend.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Stayed Easter weekend in tent with electric hook up. Owners were really nice and very helpful.Showers and toilets were always clean and available. Our son had a fantastic time fishing during our stay. We took our dog with us ,I would say great in the dryer months but not so good during the wetter months as the main road is very fast and the fields were very wet and muddy. Will definitely return in better weather.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Allowed me to camp on a grass pitch when all the other nearby sites had withdrawn theirs following sustained heavy rain. I was asked to park my car on tarmac approx 10 foot away from the pitch but this was a great solution and I was so happy to be able to do my trip. Great facilities block which I appreciated. Quality well-run site run by a friendly family - a great alternative to a Camping & Caravanning Club club site. I recommend it!

Disliked: You get about 5 minutes for each shower token, so I'd suggest buying 2 (they're 50p each). I think it would better overall to increase the fees for the pitches by £1 a night and scrap the tokens, but it's really not a big deal. If the weather forces you to wash up in the rain, you'll find the washing up area outside could do with a little porch/roof over it, because whilst your dishes don't get rained on as you wash up, you do!

Liked: Not lot I can say about liking the site

Disliked: I really object to sites claiming to be dog friendly, charge £2 per night and actually provide nothing. Not even allowed to walk your dog on site. To walk off site means road walking. No pavement and traffic doing 60mph. The site was saturated and the ground best described as mud. Bit they were still pitching people on it. If you want a shower you need to buy a token at 50p. Toilets are locked it's a £5 deposit fir a key. There are approx 100 pitches and only two toilets per sex and two showers. No grey waste for motorhomes, surround on grey and black waste points is too high to fully empty. All hard standing is let for seasonal pitches. So only grass pitches available. We were put on a hard standing pitch as the owner was away. But were expected to move if they arrived. To say we were very disappointed is an understatement. We could not wait to change sites.

From the manager: We are sorry that you feel this way but you did decide to come away at the wettest time of year with the a large camper van. We gave you the luxury of a hard standing but obviously wasn’t good enough. Even though you agreed that this was helpful at the time. You did book a grass pitch with the wettest winter in record. We have never had any problems with the amount of shower and toilets we have we have always been given praise for the facilities. There are multiple public footpaths that are right next to the campsite across a working farm so the high way code has to be followed. Hope you find a more commercial site that fits your needs. !

Local attractions

The magnificent rooms of 19th-century Eastnor Castle (10 minutes’ drive) are hung with enormous chandeliers and adorned with portraits, rich tapestries and decorative objects. Herds of red deer inhabit the surrounding grounds, which also host medieval re-enactments, firework displays and other events. Stretching along the banks of the Severn, Worcester (half an hour) has a splendid 11th-century cathedral with a Gothic nave and colourful stained-glass windows. You can learn all about the city’s production of porcelain in the Museum of Royal Worcester, while the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum has displays on the renowned local sauce. The cathedral in Gloucester (half an hour) is famed for its connection to Harry Potter (several film scenes were shot in the elegant cloister). The city, which is England’s most inland port, is also worth a visit for its Victorian docks, where former warehouses now shelter independent shops, lively cafes and institutions like the National Waterways Museum.
