Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Beautiful part of the world. Lovely flat, grassy site has stunning views , located well for country walks and visiting charming local towns of Ludlow and Church Stretton. Wild birds are amazing, from swallows to kites. Dog friendly, all the basic facilities you need. Clean toilet / shower facilities, fridge and freezer for freezing ice blocks. Close to local (request stop!) railway line / station but with just three trains a day (and none at night), it's not a disturbance. Owners are friendly and helpful, flexible arrival and departure times. We would very happily stay here again.

Disliked: Whilst clean, its unlikely that just two ladies showers and one men's shower for 20 or so pitches during peak season.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The owners were so friendly and accommodating. The site was beautifully quiet and within a gentle stroll of a village shop and village pub. The sky at night was beautiful lite up with thousands of millions of stars - it was so clear you could see them all. On the night I was there you could see several constellation. Toilet block was very clean, and well maintained. I would recommend and I will be going back soon.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Small, well-kept campsite with level grass fields. Clean and well-equipped toilet block (2 toilets, 2 washbasins and a shower in the men's) with hand dryer and hairdryer. Despite biblical rain showers, the field didn't get muddy or waterlogged. A bargain at the prrice.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The friendly sms pre-arrival was lovely! I was only briefly at the campsite as I had an event starting early the next day, but I would be very happy to come back and stay longer. The campsite was easy to find and had a few different fields. Great service and communication. Thank you Stacy for coming to meet me at my car as I parked.

Disliked: Nothing - maybe only that I wasn’t actually there long enough!

Local attractions

The first question on your mind might be: where to go walking first? And there sure is a lot of choice, with all the trails around the Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (25 minutes' drive), including a stream for cooling off and wild ponies wandering around. Mortimer Forest (20 minutes) has a thousand hectares worth of wildlife, including birds of prey and warblers, and Bucknell Wood (20 minutes) has plenty more, such as grass snakes and slow worms. As for those who’d like to take in the scenery with the wind rushing through their hair and two wheels beneath their feet, Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd and Hopton Woods (10 minutes) both have mountain biking tracks. Mighty fortresses may also play a part in your itinerary, given that the Hopton Castle (10 minutes) ruins, Clun Castle (15 minutes) and Ludlow Castle (20 minutes) are all so close by. While you’re in Ludlow (20 minutes), scout out if any food festivals or markets are on the schedule.
