  • Dog-friendly off-grid shepherd’s hut in the peaceful countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Ironbridge; half an hour to the Long Mynd
  • Outdoor table, chairs and barbecue provided; lots of local walks
Set down at this newly-refurbished shepherd’s hut, off-grid but with its own composting loo and shower. Surrounded by the peace and quiet of the Shropshire countryside, the site calls this Cedar Shepherd's Hut at Willey Estates Camping ‘glorified wild camping’. Whether you’re a couple taking a much-needed getaway for a few days or a family seeking a memorable time in the countryside, you should find it nice and peaceful indeed. The hut is located by itself and there’s space to pitch a tent (or two) for the kids. Parents can have the comfy bed inside, of course. Get cooking over the barbecue in the evening. There’s an outdoor table and chairs where you can dig in. You might be quite hungry, after tackling Shropshire hikes. There are lots of great walks, both locally and a bit further afield, such as the Clee Hills (40 minutes’ dive) and Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (half an hour). If you’re the type to keep your breaks active, get stuck into rafting or canoeing on the river Severn too. History fans will be nicely occupied with the museums of Ironbridge (from around 10 minutes’ drive) and Blists Hill Victorian Town (10 minutes).

Cedar shepherd's hut

Liked: Such a beautiful setting. The shower was lovely and hot. We had the most relaxing reading and everything was so comfortable. Our Labrador had the best time! It was great that the hut was secure with a gate so she couldn’t run off.

Disliked: Nothing
