Liked: Lovely quiet park

Disliked: General manager Steve. Like a Sergeant Major patrolling the ground asserting authority, not what anyone needs when camping. Patrolling round with doberman or buggy. Been to the site many times, it was really quiet, like soul sucked out of it, quite sad to be honest, won't go back again. There was lots of space and early summer, presumably other abandoned a once lovely site. People go camping to escape everyday lives, chill out, they don't want micro managers laying down pathetic laws.

Liked: What a fantastic site! I only stayed for one night as a stopover to do some laundry and my utilities but I really enjoyed my stay! The facilities are fantastic - laundry was on an app and easy to use, the staff were friendly and helpful, I used the swimming pool twice and it was clean and warm. The shower block was clean and hot showers. I booked a grass motorhome pitch but as soon as I arrived the lady at reception offered me a hardstanding pitch as one was available. It was the perfect spot and I had the sunshine all evening. I honestly don't know how they can make any money for what they charge - I was off peak on a weekday but the value for money was excellent. Highly recommend!

Liked: Friendly staff Great amenities Quiet site

Disliked: Pitch up (not Ashbourne) messed up my camping booking, therefore I stayed away from my friends in a different camping feild. Being a lone female parent, this was unhelpful. An un-level pitch, which was waterlogged and lumpy.

Liked: Good site with a good park and really nice swimming pool. Plenty of walks around the area and also very dog friendly.

Disliked: The shower block is quite a distance away although clean it could probably do with an update. Did have to also tell neighbouring pitches to keep noise down at 1am

Liked: The site is very well kept and organised. Pitch sizes are good, pitches are next to a large park & away from the road so great for young families. The rest of the site is quiet and well spaced. Staff couldn’t be better. Very friendly and inviting. We will definitely return.

Local attractions

The amount of antics available at Alton Towers near Ashbourne Heights might turn grownups grey among the thrill rides, river rapids and other heady highlights of the country’s biggest theme park. You’ll ensure Very Good Behaviour Indeed if you take the family on to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, designed to keep all ages busy/tired out for later (beware the nerf guns). Other energetic Peak District pastimes include watersports, laser tag, climbing, caving and zipwiring; find out where’s what at Ashbourne’s tourist information centre, which is practised in all things Peak. More peacefully, the Peak District has a high amount of culture and heritage to explore: National Trust houses and estates, the old spa towns of Matlock and Buxton, museums of all sorts, prehistoric cave paintings, three vintage railways and aeons more. Lead mining was a main industry here from Roman times until recently and info on the industry can be mined at the Peak District Mining Museum at Matlock. Bolsover Castle, founded in the 12th century, has regular events to tempt the kids, such as exhibitions on torture for the gruesomely minded, an indoor riding school, and a theatrical room just for little darlings.
