  • Comfortable grass pitches 25 minutes’ drive from Arnhem and Apeldoorn
  • Half an hour’s walk from Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe
  • Within walking distance of Otterlo’s shops, restaurant and museum
Waking up to birds chirping and views of sloping green hills sounds pretty splendid indeed – but even more so when you remember that it's just half an hour's stroll from your pitch at Camping De Nieuwe Hof to the edge of Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe. Once at the national park, pick up one of the famed white bikes to go on the lookout for wild horned mouflon, black woodpecker and fens. On the outskirts of Otterlo village, these comfy grass pitches are also within walking distance of shops, restaurants and a small tile museum, making it a handy spot for simple needs like grocery shopping or general pottering-around activities. If you’ve got no time for pottering, tour the highlights by driving 10 minutes to the Kröller-Müller Museum, which has 200+ Vincent van Gogh artworks. Then, descend upon Arnhem and Apeldoorn, both 25 minutes’ drive away from the site. Between them, they have attractions like the famed Paleis Het Loo, a fashion district and the 7 straatjes. Camping De Nieuwe Hof walks the line between comfort and being a wildlife haven, with splendid views and modern, convenient facilities like toilets, showers and waste disposal.

Local attractions

There’s not just one, but two, national parks within easy reach of Camping De Nieuwe Hof in the Gelderland. Nationaal Park Veluwezoom (half an hour’s drive) is Holland’s oldest national park. From its highest point, the Posbank, you can see out over the whole reserve (as far as 20 kilometres). The trails go past drifting sands country estates and plenty more scenic spots, so there’s always somewhere pretty to pause for a picnic. One moment, you're cycling or hiking, and the next, you're touring a palace with royal family heirlooms and gorgeous landscaped grounds. Paleis Het Loo (25 minutes) is on the edge of Apeldoorn (25 minutes), making it an easy add-on to a day out in the city, where you could spend your precious time café-hopping, browsing the museum or riding the Veluwsche steam train to Dieren. Spanning across two different riverbanks, Arnhem (25 minutes) has a collection of museums, and just a little bit further on, Regio de Liemers (35 minutes) has riverfront beaches for swimming and boating as well as yet more lovely hikes (you could hike all holiday long, really…).
