  • A 20-minute drive from the beaches of the Ceredigion coast
  • River walks and fishing from site; 5 minutes' drive from pub and shops
Ah, Cardigan Bay… cliffs, dolphins, castles, rivers and green hills… Fill your boots with the best of the bay and the whole county of Camarthenshire from a base on this spacious and friendly site, with free site-side wifi added in summer 2019. If you know your Welsh, or your Wales, you'll know that Afon Teifi Caravan and Camping is a riverside site, right on the banks of the Teifi; it's also about five minutes' drive from the lively market town of Newcastle Emlyn and around 20 minutes from the coast. It's a spacious site with a playing field along with a playground for kids of all ages and a games room kitted out with pool table, table tennis and a dartboard. Barbecues and campfires are allowed and you can stock up supplies for your alfresco feasts in nearby Newcastle Emlyn, as well as treat yourself to local ales and hot fresh food in the pubs. The site has 15 acres of lovely riverside land for the exclusive use of its visitors (human and canine): take a walk along the Teifi or fish from the banks for trout, sea trout and salmon with daily, weekly and season tickets available to purchase from the reception desk. Maybe you'll catch something for supper…

Liked: Lovely site, very family friendly. Picturesque views of surroundings and river walks. Tidy pitches and decent services all round. Lovely people on site also with little stalls selling various things from food to jewelry. Close access to pubs with great food, takeaways shops and beaches. Highly recommend, will go again for sure.

Disliked: Was noisy late into the small hours, which spoiled sleep a little. Might have been due to late in season and rules relaxed a little. But hey ho, was not a big deal really, but worth mentioning.

Liked: Great campsite, small and peaceful. All pitches were level, water supply close by and toilet/shower block within a 60 second walk. Good lighting in walkways at night. Park and small games room in the night. Warden even arranged a pool competition for the kids. Tree swings for the kids to play on, field for the dog to run around, and access to the river to do some fishing. In a great location with good road access to sites. Fire pits and BBQ allowed, warden will rent you a fire pit for your stay which was reasonably priced

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Very clean campsite, good facilities, lovely dog walking area. Visiting food vendors and market stalls were a nice touch

Disliked: We arrived about 6.30pm and were shown to our pitch - weren’t given any info except where the dog walking area was but we soon found it all! Very noisy at night, big groups accumulating all around. We were sitting out a couple of nights too but did try and keep our noise down as we were considering our neighbours but no one was coming round or monitoring. Children cycling round and round at midnight. It didn’t bother us but not the place to go if you are looking for peace and quiet. It was full and a BH weekend.

Liked: Easy access to the site and the pitch, good road around to drive down. Carpark was a good size. The pitch was a good size, close access to water and the electric. Toilets and showers kept clean and tidy. The children enjoyed the play park and rope swings. River Teifi a couple of minutes walk away suitable for playing in and paddle sports. Good field for exercising dogs as well. Staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Easily approachable too.

Liked: We had a great time staying here, the kids really enjoyed the play park and having the river behind the campsite where we could go and catch fish with a little net. Overall really enjoyed our stay plus having the rental of a fire pit was very handy on some of thou chilly nights.

Local attractions

Castles? Sorted. The ruined castle in Newcastle Emlyn is one of many built to defend this much-fought-over slice of green and pleasant land; Cilgerran, 15 minutes away, has ruinous traces of all the people who've sacked it and seized it, while 11th-century Cardigan Castle has been so well restored you'd think it was still in use. If you feel like going further back in time, spin a yarn or two at the National Wool Museum, five minutes' drive away, or hoof it over to Castell Henllys (30 minutes) to experience life in a working replica Iron Age village. The seals and dolphins have been visiting the waters of Cardigan Bay since long before the castles: spot them via a sea safari from New Quay, half an hour away. Alternatively take your binoculars when you hit the beach there, or at the similarly well-appointed sandy strips of Aberporth, Mwnt, Llangrannog and Poppit Sands, all between 20 minutes' and half an hour's drive. Antics off the sands include canoeing through the Teifi gorge from Cilgerran and walks along the 60-mile long Ceredigion Coast Path, as well as birdwatching opportunities aplenty heading inland along the wetlands of the Teifi estuary. For family days out involving thrill rides, wild beasts and high-octane active stuff, the trio of Oakwood Theme Park, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo and Heatherton World of Activities are all around an hour's drive away.
