Liked: The welcome by the friendly owners, who were willing to help with any of our questions about the local area and bus timetable. The site is really close to the bus stop for all local attractions, which made it easy to get to St Ives and Penzance. The pitch was flat and in a wide open space, so we didn’t feel hemmed in by other campers. All the usual facilities were available and in clean and good condition.

Disliked: There was a little noise from the road, but really this wasn’t a problem. There is no footpath along the road, which made the walk to the bus stop feel a bit hazardous. However, on the return journey, the bus drivers were all very helpful and dropped us off at the gate to the campsite. The facilities were none permanent structures.

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and found the facilities clean. It’s great that you used the local bus service, which recently has been rerouted and now actually goes past our gate and will stop to pick up and drop off passengers, which saves the short walk to the bus stop. Unfortunately we do have some road noise at times when the wind is in a certain direction and the road is busy, but glad you didn’t find this a problem and you will recommend us to your friends and visit again in the future. Disliked: Perfectly fine but no soul to the site. Maybe because it was end of season? Some road noise.

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you found the pitches to be a good size, the facilities clean and that you were in a great location. We are sorry that you left us feeling that our site had ‘no soul’, but we welcome your honesty and completely understand that we won’t be everybody’s ‘cup of tea’ and there are some who will not want to return to us. Liked: Lovely place. Great access to some amazing beaches. The guys that run the site were friendly without being overbearing, and were really happy to make your stay pleasant. There’s an accessible shower which is awesome as my daughter has mobility difficulties so showering was not a trauma enducing experience! Proper chilled. Oh, with a wetsuit wash hanger which is pretty essential as the beaches nearby have good waves.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike really. Would be great if it stayed open all year for those of us who live just that bit too far away to access the beaches in one day but that’s me being selfish.

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to write such a glowing review. We are bowled over by all the amazing reviews that we receive. We do our best to give all of our guests a great stay and it’s great that people like yourselves take time to write reviews. We are glad that you found the easy access shower useful and had a chilled stay. Unfortunately Cornwall doesn’t have the climate to stay open all year and our ground just wouldn’t survive. We do hope in the future to have some hard standing pitches that would enable us to offer a longer season. Although we do look forward to a winter break and some sun 🌞 after a busy summer so would need to close at some point 😁 Jayne and Mike

Disliked: Showers turned off at 10 pm . That’s the only downside

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and would visit again, despite the showers going off at 10pm. 😁. Turning them off at this time of night not only stops the misuse of them, but also allows Mike to spray them with a cleaning fluid that works overnight to thoroughly sanitise and leave them spotlessly clean ready for the morning rush. It’s great that you would stay again in the future. Jayne and Mike

Jade camping pod

Liked: Large campsite, easy to find and well maintained. Lots of shower cabins and toilets, hassle free check-in/check-out. Breakfast is served daily from a food truck nearby and local takeaway's can deliver to this campsite. The pod was great, really cosy and warm at night, however, It can be difficult to maneuver inside for 2 adults. If you are over 6ft, this one is probably not for you.

Disliked: The tradeoff for many showers is that they are awkward to use. The tiny sinks might as well not be there, its impossible to use them without splashing water all over the floor and when you take into account that you walk through gravel to get to them, the floor can get quite messy quite quickly. However, they are cleaned daily so it all depends what time of the day you go. Hot water also stops at 10pm sharp (we were informed about this at checkin), which was a little inconvenient for us as we tend to go out for the day and come back really late. Having to rush back to the camp to catch hot water was not in our plans but that's just a problem for us and may not be for you.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write such an in depth review. It’s great that you found us easily and felt that the site was well maintained. The pods are cosy and warm, but appreciate that if you are tall that you may not have enough head space. Maybe a shepherds hut would give you more headspace. We are sorry that you found the showers awkward to use and didn’t like them going off at 10pm at night, but this is to allow for them to be sanitised and left over night for the disinfectant to do its job ready for their first of many cleans in the morning. I agree that the sinks are small, but this is how they were designed to allow more room, but there is matting on the floor which if there is a water spillage should go directly through the mats. These are also cleaned several times a day and pressure washed at least once daily. I can however appreciate that you do walk through gravel before you step onto the concrete platform that houses the facilities, which if the weather is not favourable can be a pain and is something we would like to address in the future. Although it’s great that you will still recommend us to your friends and visit again in the future. Jayne and Mike Jayne and Mike

Liked: Easy access Friendly check in good facilities

Disliked: The ground was quite muddy on the pitch Not much for children to do

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you found the site easy to access and the facilities clean. We are sorry that the ground on your pitch was muddy. As it is near the end of the season and we have had many rainy days the pitches especially the popular ones near the facilities that have had tents on for the last six weeks have taken a battering. Had we known this we could have moved you to another pitch. I am sorry that you felt there was not much for the children to do. We do only advertise as a basic site and we encourage natural play in the middle of the big field, which is why it is left empty. We don’t plan to add any additional play areas in the future. We understand that this will not suit all of our guests and there are some like yourselves who would not wish to return, but hope you find a site more suited to your needs. Jayne and mike

Local attractions

The beaches along this stretch of Cornwall’s coast are top spots for watersports, nature walks and the simple pleasures of splashing in the sea. Walk the coast path up to the more secluded sands at Godrevy (a 10-minute drive), then onwards to spot seals from Godrevy Point. For days away from the waves, there’s go-karting to be had at Hayle as well as animal encounters and indoor play at the Paradise Park and Jungle Barn. For something more artistic, make for St Ives (20 minutes) for a wander round the Tate Gallery and the studio of sculptor Barbara Hepworth or go underground on a walk through Cornwall’s industrial history at the Geevor Tin Mine (half an hour). Penzance is your place for boat trips: fishing, seal spotting and dolphin watching as well as the daily ferries to the Scilly Isles (you can take the helicopter for a quicker trip). Day trips to this subtropical island group are very doable, with many visitors hiring bikes to explore the beaches or find spots to go snorkelling with the friendly grey seals. For a closer island experience, take a 20-minute drive to Marazion then walk the cobbled causeway to St Michael’s Mount. It might involve a boat ride at certain times of day, so check ahead, but however you arrive you’ll find a treat on this island with its medieval chapel and castle, winding paths and nature-filled gardens.
