  • Peaceful pitches on a working farm just on the edge of Crowborough
  • A 15-minute drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells and Pooh Sticks Bridge
  • Close to Ashdown Forest walks; horse riding available on the farm
Beechenwood Farm is a peaceful East Sussex site on a working farm within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, about a mile from the centre of Crowborough. This handy location is a splendid one for walks as it’s close to Ashdown Forest, the inspiration behind Winnie the Pooh. A themed trail from Pooh Sticks Bridge around the bear’s favourite locations is highly likely to be a hit with kids and grownups alik). Horse riding’s popular around the forest too, and you can saddle up right there on the farm for your first horseback steps. Elsewhere locally you can have games of golf, hours at a bike park, vineyard wanders and rides on the Bluebell Railway; there are plenty of smart country estates and gardens to wander around as well. Barbecues are permitted on site for folk who’d like to try a bit of outdoor cookery; there are several supermarkets and independent shops in town for picking up all the bits. Takeaways, pubs and restaurants are all plentiful over there too if you’d rather someone else did the honours on the food front.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Spacious field on a running farm.

Disliked: The site is probably nice if you come prepared for wild camping. The only facilities are two portaloos that weren’t clean

From the manager: Hi Rick, we are disappointed you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We do advertise we are a working farm as alot of kids like coming here to meet the animals. We have always verged on the wild side of camping to protect the abundance of nature around us. The toilets are cleaned every day and emptied weekly, occasionally we do find loo roll on the floor etc but are quick to remedy it as soon as we can. Once again apologies but maybe a more commercial site would suit you better.

Simple but perfect.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Don & Donna were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Their site is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views, my girls got to enjoy their trampolines, bikes & slides & we were even invited to meet the animals (including riding the horses & holding the baby lamb!) It made the whole experience one we won’t forget easily for all the right reasons! Thank you so much, we will definitely be back!

From the manager: Thank you Stephanie for your review. We are so pleased you enjoyed yourselves and your girls loved the riding! We aim to embrace the countryside and love sharing it all with our campers and look forward to welcoming you back😁🏕

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: We had a great time. The kids loved the trampolines and visiting the horses and we had a great time with the neighbours .

Disliked: There’s cold running water but no wash/ shower facilities.

From the manager: Hi Natalie thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed our stay with us. We don't have the provision for showers unfortunately and don't advertise that we do have them. We are a back to nature site, quiet and peaceful. The leisure centre by our farm gate has showers, indoor swimming pool etc. too. We look forward to seeing you again😁🏕

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The owners were very nice and accomadating. They advised abut different walks in the area and later checked we were okay.

Disliked: This site is missold from the pictures. We could see large buildings in front of the campsite. There were obviously a travelling community staying on site. In the day this was not a problem but at night they were using an angle grinder on their vans. We were assured that there generators would go off at 9pm. It finally stopped about 4.45 am. They were very intimidating and at one point around 9pm drove near our tent with their headlights on our tent for longer than necessary and went into the woods to collect wood. They then returned back to their caravans and got out a chainsaw to cut up the wood. The picture on pitch up is of the adjourning field not the actual one you can stay in We will not be returning.

From the manager: Hi Louise, we are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. The tree surgeons along the top were only here for a few nights and had been asked not to leave generators running. We did go out to them and told them but I gather one was started again afterwards. Rather than disturbing everyone late at night they were told that they would have to leave the following day which they did. I can assure you they won't be coming back! We offer peaceful camping and that is one reason why the trampolines, slides etc are a short distance away from the campsite so noise is kept to a minimum. The buildings to one end are offices that are not used at weekends and do supply security to the entrance. We are governed by the local council as to which fields we can use and there are several photos of the field used with views to the others unfortunately!! Once you are in the field you are surrounded by woodland one side and tree boundaries round the others. We are quite happy to offer you a free nights camping and once again are sorry that you didn't experience the usual peacefulness of our site.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Donna and Don were truly wonderful hosts. Lots of helpful instructions to find the site sent before hand. Don even picked us up from the festival at the end of the night to bring us back to the campsite! Such a lovely couple. Highly reccomend.

Disliked: It’s a lovely unspoilt site which I imagine remains quiet. They have toilets and water point and dog friendly. But don’t stay here if you need electric and showers etc.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Laura, thank you for great review and that you enjoyed staying with us. We do have the facility for guests to recharge phones etc over by the trampoline area which they are welcome to use. We are a quiet site and the emphasis is on back to nature. We do also provide free fire pits and wood and various locally produced products to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you again soon😁
