  • Semi-rural glamping site in a tree-lined setting with shepherd’s huts
  • A 20-minute drive to Leek market town and half an hour to Alton Towers
  • Units include double beds, kitchenettes and separate, private wetrooms
Searching for a swish site in the Staffordshire Moorlands within half an hour’s drive of Alton Towers? Glamping at Holly Grove Farm could be the way to go – especially if you’re taken by the idea of settling into a shepherd’s hut with a kitchenette and a private wetroom all to yourselves. Stay here to sort a decent meal and a good night’s kip ahead of a day taking on the rides at one of the UK’s top theme parks – each unit at this neatly kept, tree-lined park comes with a double bed (linens included) and a microwave oven with a grill as well as cutlery and crockery. 4G's available on site but if you're planning a cosy night in you'd best download whatever films/TV material you require before you arrive as streaming can be a tad on the slow side. Not a fan of rollercoasters? There’s lots more to do in the local area other than hurtle down rides: the Victorian architecture and markets of the town of Leek are a 20-minute drive away, and the outer edges of the Peak District National Park are half an hour away for hikes in pretty countryside. If you fancy ambles (or cycle rides) closer by, perhaps set off for the local pub about a mile down the road; a nursery with a café and farm shop is within walking distance too. Other eateries and inns serving meals and real ales are just as easy to access – simply have a chat with the park’s friendly owners for recommendations (and a hand booking a table).

Shepherd's hut (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: Very friendly owners who made you feel at home upon arrival. The pod was very clean and modern with excellent facilities, separate shower & toilet next to the pod which was for our individual use. Great location, near to nice pubs/ restaurants & a beautiful setting.

Disliked: Quite expensive for one night at £120.00. I feel £100.00 would be more reasonable.

Local attractions

Lope off to Leek for traditional shopping: a general weekly outdoor market sells all manner of curios in this town on Wednesdays, while an indoor market opens Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the renovated Victorian hall. An antique and collectors’ market is hosted in the open air on Saturdays and an award-winning monthly artisan food market pops up in the main square every third Saturday of the month too. For browsing boutiques, half an hour’s drive away is Trentham Shopping Village, a complex made up of 77 timber lodges hosting shops, cafés and restaurants right by Trentham Estate’s grand gardens; you could always wave hello to the 140 Barbary macaques in the Monkey Forest or channel your inner ape on the Treetop Adventures course while you’re in the area as well. And for afters? Seek out classic British desserts in Bakewell (55 minutes' drive) deep in the Peak District or head to another famed market town, Buxton (40 minutes) for tours of Poole's Cavern where visitors can gape at a high-tech LED lighting system showcasing stunning subterranean crystal formations.
