  • An 80-acre site with well-spaced pitches and pretty countryside views
  • In the stunning mid Shropshire Hills; half hour drive to Shrewsbury
  • Pick-your-own spot stays on a nearly-wild park run by helpful owners
Venture to Lower Vessons Farm for a nearly-wild experience – free from the risk of an angry farmer telling you to move on halfway through the night – at a site on 80 acres of land in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The scenery at this park is stunning: see pics, then choose your spot in the 16 acres of dense woodland or on one of the vast fields. According to the owners, the main attraction here is having a back-to-nature break without any noisy neighbours to worry about (and they've spaced the pitches a whopping 50 metres apart to make sure that's the case…). Given the level of seclusion, there are no roads on site; access is over grass and campervans are welcome. If the weather causes problems, the owners and their vehicles are on hand to help get you on and off the grounds. While the idea of being stuck at this site is actually rather a smashing one, you won’t really want to be restricted from roaming around top Shropshire destinations like Shrewbury (half an hour’s drive away) and Ludlow (an hour). For explores without the car, Eastridge Woods (15 minutes’ walk) is well known for hosting mountain bike competitions and has trails that are free to use whether you’re a beginner or expert cyclist. If Lower Vessons’ rural location has you questioning where on earth you’ll find food, the answer is that it won’t be much bother – the nearest pub is a mile away and takeaways and restaurants are within a couple of miles. As part of the wild experience, this site welcomes campfires, barbecues and dogs but does not have showers.

Unpowered grass and earth campervan site

Liked: I was a little apprehensive before arriving due to the amount of rain we had and if my van was going to make it up onto the fields. I met Nigel on arrival who was very friendly and he found me the most incredible flat pitch just off of the track to park the van up. The views were lovely. This is the perfect site for some quiet time away from it all. The track up to the site is long however just take it slowly and there are no problems. Great location for exploring the hills. If I go back to Shropshire I would definitely stay again.

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Remote, peaceful spot with spectacular views. If you like back-to-basic camping with natural campfires and stunning views then this is the place to pitch. The stars on a clear night were spectacular as there's no light pollution. Nigel was very welcoming and showed us to our pitch. We had a whole field to ourselves for our 4 night stay, (which is just how we like to camp.) If you leave your water carrier out it will be filled up & returned to you in the morning, which would be very handy if you are camping in one of the upper fields. Can't wait to return and becoming one of Nigel's regular customers. Tina, Gordon & the 2 dogs.

Disliked: Going home!

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful place for walking, Nigel was incredibly kind and helpful. Even though it rained a lot we had a lovely time!

Disliked: The portaloos were pretty bad, even for portaloos but I don’t believe that’s any fault of the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We thank this client for the positive remarks I think it was allways going to be trying to expect a group of young teenage minors with an adult supervisor to fully grasp the flushing aspects of Portaloos certainly the cleanliness of the toilets is something we take very seriously and are often complimented on in other client reviews

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Fantastic views and well organised. Lots of room and plenty of opportunities to walk /hike in the area

Disliked: One set of campers had loud music to the early hours.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We thank this client for there positive review we did have some young people staying recently at the time of this clients visit I do carry out late night noise tours of the site but have to say up to midnight there was no excessive noise on any part of the site , on my morning water run I always check with each client if there were any disturbances through the night but no one complained of any our policy here is if i hear noise at one pitch coming from another pitch 50 meters away our minimum spacing I ask those responsible to turn things down I very seldom have to do this . Unpowered grass and earth campervan site

Liked: Fabulous, rural campsite with stunning views! The spacing between pitches is huge and myself and my 2 dogs had the whole field to ourselves! I think there were only 3 pitches booked that night and Nigel put us all in different fields, so it felt like no-one else was around…which was perfect! Just what I was looking for and I will definitely be back!

Disliked: Nothing!
