Book a break at Vakantiepark de Bronzen Eik and bring your bike and your boots if so, for this North Netherlands setting is one of hiking trails and cycle paths, covering hundreds of kilometres of spectacularly scenic countryside in its Groningen province setting. The trails of the Sellingen forests, the Ruiten Aa river and the Easter Mountain nature reserve at Terborg are all within walking distance of de Bronzen Eik – and yes, you can hire bikes on site… Fort Bourtange and the Ter Apel Monastery are both within cycling distance (and very much recommended). Fishing and canoeing are both offered here to guests – ask the friendly team at reception for their help in getting you out around and on the water – and there's also a playground and free wifi to keep all ages occupied. A range of local dishes is served at the roomy restaurant, to have indoors or on the terrace. De Bronzen Eik also has modern toilet and shower blocks, a washing-up area, chemical disposal and a launderette.

Llocs d'interès

Take your bike or your walking skills to the hundreds of kilometres' worth of paths around here, such as around the thick Sellingen forests, along the banks of the Ruiten Aa, or around the Paasberg/Easter Mountain nature reserve at the nearby small city of Terborg. Also within biking distance is Fort Bourtange, the 16th-century star fort on the road between Germany and the city of Groningen, well worth the ride to see the well-preserved buildings around its four and a half hectares of pentagon. Or pedal to the Ter Apel Monastery, the only rural Middle Ages monastery left in the Netherlands and the only one in the Groningen and Friesland region to come through the Reformation in good condition. Taking to the car, the adventure theme park and zoo of Wildlands (previously known as Emmen Zoo) is a 35-minute drive away, and Sögel's Clemenswerth Palace and the town of Leer are both within half an hour.
