Dreaming of a seaside getaway in a peaceful countryside spot? You may have dreamed of Camping Parc du Guibel, a family-friendly site in the countryside five minutes’ drive from Piriac resort town in the Loire-Atlantique department of Pays de la Loire, south of Brittany. Parc du Guibel is a prime point for beach getaways: the site is less than five minutes' drive from the coast and the beach (Port-Kennet) for swimming, following the coast path or lying out on the sand, and about five minutes from the watersports centre in Piriac where you can try sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding. You don’t have to go as far as the beach to get your toes wet either – there’s a waterpark with pool, slides, paddling pool and solarium back on site, so go for a dip or take the plunge. If you’re tiring of wrinkly fingertips, step out of the water and have a go at miniature golf, volleyball, badminton, ping pong or pétanque instead, before heading to the multisports area for tennis, basketball and handball. Worked up an appetite? During high season, make your way to the bar-restaurant for a bite and a drink, or fend for yourself by picking up some goodies at the on-site grocery shop and piling them up on the barbecue. Alternatively, treat yourself to a meal at one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of Parc du Guibel.

Camping Parc du Guibel is less than 10 minutes from the edge of Brière Regional Natural Park, a nature reserve you can explore on foot, by bike or canoe, from horseback, or (if all of those are a little too much effort) on a barge that brings you through the Grand Brière Mottière marsh. There’s more to it than rambling exploration too: pick your way around the ruins of the Château de Ranrouët, bring the kids to the Monkey Forest leisure park, experience a traditional Brieron village at Kerhinet open-air museum and keep your eyes on the skies at the bird reserve at Pierre Constant, all within 45 minutes of the site. Craving something more urban? Parc du Guibel is 15 minutes’ drive from the walled town of Guérande, where there’s plenty of history to uncover: wander the medieval streets, make a trip to the old ramparts and visit the museum at Porte Saint Michel. A little further afield, head to Saint-Nazaire, half an hour away, for its scenic boardwalk, the old port, the submarine Espadon and heritage museum, and the Escal-Atlantic historic ocean liner experience.
