Grownups! If you seek serenity, scenery and nature-spotting on holiday, this is the Shropshire site for you. Adjacent to the mere of Colemere and set on the lake's south side, adults-only Colemere Caravan Park is in a countryside setting on five acres of wildlife-laden land with peaceful walks all around – and a quarter of a mile from Wood Lane nature reserve, which the expert folk at the BBC describe as one of the best birdwatching sites in Shropshire. Owners Dave and Ingrid have put a lot of thought into ensuring that guests are kept comfy at this peaceful and popular little site: as well as a good range of accommodation options, guests have access to a fully-equipped and cute social area, all hand-built and including a kitchen with fridge, kettle, utensils, pots and microwave. Firepits are available on request and guests can bring their own barbecues. And for keeping toasty after that, a Nordic wood-fired hot tub overlooking the lily pond is available to hire in the afternoons and evenings for four-hour periods (couples only). Picnic tables are dotted around to place the campfire food on, and the park has well-kept separate bathrooms for ladies and gents.

Tyckte om: The kitchen / relax area is beautiful, super comfy and really relaxed, the place felt really safe and friendly

Tyckte inte om: They could really do with a catcher on the ride on mower, the grass clippings got into everything, my tent, my car, the amenities, absolutely everywhere!

Från föreståndaren: Thanks for your review! As we have a large area to cut and maintain grass cuttings are inevitable unfortunately, as it’s growing so quickly . As we have experienced over the years the grass will not grow so fast and there will be less of it. However we will maintain with our grass cutting to ensure the site is looking its best for our guests . Sorry that this was a burden for you and hope you’ll revisit again in the future.

I would definitely recommend this site to friends. Stunning

Kingfisher yurt

Tyckte om: The locations of the site was perfect and very idilic, close enough to travel to supermarket by car if needing to. Owner was very helpful and set up our fire pit next to our pitch. We stayed in the yurt which was nicely fitted out with blankets, minifridge and a plates etc Facilities were clean on every visit. Reception area was lovely and catered for everything you could think of. Lots of beautiful scenery and walks close to hand.

Tyckte inte om: Dead flies dropping on the bed from the yurt roof window. Understandably being out in nature but maybe could have been delt with before our arrival. Wooden step into yurt was very slippy and I did manage to slip on it despite being aware it was wet and slippy.

Tyckte om: Lovely well kept site. Common area was a plus with kitchen facilities as well as lovely toilets & showers available. Hot tub hire was also a lovely bonus. Walk around the lake from the site was really nice.

Tyckte om: This site was absolutely beautiful, being surrounded by the sound of wildlife, bunnies running around, the pond was so beautiful I could honestly sit and watch the pond with the birds and dragonflies for hours. Very peaceful place to re charge and be with your loved ones. We pitched up in the back field, very short two minute walk up to the reception area. Showers and toilets were clean and never too busy, the kitchen area was clean. The lounge was so lovely with the rustic look, plenty of seats and heaters if it got cold. We had everything we could have needed in that one spot. Adult only site, WiFi in the lounge and signal was hit and miss in the tent but we enjoyed the time away from the phones. Thank you !! We will be back !!!

Coming from Ellesmere to Shrewsbury on the A528 you will see signs for Colemere after 2 miles. Turn left at the crossroads and drive to the next junction where the three lanes converge. Turn left on to Mill Lane and the park is 100 metres on your right-hand side.

There's stacks to do in the surrounding area, whether you want to stick close to home by foot or pedal, or drive a bit further afield to the towns, tourist attractions and landscapes of Shropshire, Cheshire and north-east Wales – the city of Chester is 40 minutes away and Llangollen on the River Dee reachable within an hour. On the doorstep, tackle the two-mile walk along the canal towpath to Ellesmere or make your way via the purpose-built circular walk and through a wooded area of rhododendrons around the mere and nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with species galore to see like otters, lapwings and water birds. The reserve also has several deep fishing pools well-stocked with catfish and big carp; more fishing – and carp – can be had nearby at Blackmere along the towpath from Colmere. Also nearby, wander into Colemere village to see the fifteenth-century thatched cottages, listed in the Domesday Book, to Ellesmere for food festivals, regattas and boat rides on the mere, or drive to Rednal Karting, Paintballing and Laser for an exciting time ten minutes away. Castles including Chirk and Whittington are a doddle to drive to too. If being on the water is your thing, a narrowboat marina is a three-minute drive away from the caravan park and both Colemere and Whitemere sailing clubs are within easy reach. By car, the standard of whitewater rafting at Bala Adventure and Watersports will have you foaming at the mouth – a milder form of the sport, along with abseiling, gorge walking, a steam railway and horse-drawn boat trips is available over the border in Wales at Llangollen.
