Get hiking, get fishing and get city visiting with a stay at Camping Cubillas in Castilla y León: in a walkers’ paradise near the Canal de Castilla hiking route, 10 minutes’ walk from the superb casting off of the Pisuerga river, and 10 minutes’ drive from the cities of Palencia and Valladolid. This is full-on wine land too, in a traditional Castillan landscape surrounded by small wine-producing villages: the Valladolid region is world famed for its vino and has wines from five protected designation of origin areas including the Ribera del Duero. (Top tip? Take a Ribera del Duero wine tour while you’re in the area.) Camping Cubillas has an outdoor pool and a huge surrounding area at which to lounge and to soak up some sun. Eats are covered at the barbecue facilities of the site’s big garden, but if you’re of the firm belief that cooking is too much faff while on hol, amble along to the site restaurant to eat your fill of traditional dishes made with fresh local produce.

喜欢: Grands emplacements , aire de jeux et piscine avec 2 toboggans bien lorsqu’il fait 38 degrés. Par contre le camping a besoin d’être rénové ( surtout le tour de la piscine). Sanitaires propres.

不喜欢: Un peu déçu par la piscine vieillissante ( qui paraissait bien mieux en photos) et odeur désagréable de fausse septique ( à cause de la chaleur peut être? ) . Proche de l’autoroute mais pas trop gêné par le bruit des voitures.

喜欢: Friendly staff.

不喜欢: This site is ideal if you like listening to motorway to drift you off to sleep, have no sense of smell or enjoy the smell of 24h sewage. The Spanish family’s in the bar(probably residential) sadly can’t talk to each because they prefer to SHOUT. The pitch was just dirt.

喜欢: Very friendly at reception. The bar and restaurant was very relaxed. Nice big pool. Very clean showers and toilets

不喜欢: Looks like some people stay here long term as many of the touring pitches were taken up. Found it difficult to get an even pitch. Long-termers gathered round the bar & drank from afternoon to evening & were loud. Fine for us but imagine a family might find it intimidating

As it’s so close to both the Canal de Castilla and the Pisuerga river, Camping Cubillas is in excellent location for trekking and cycling as well as river fishing for carp, barbel and brown trout. Townwise, take a trip to Valladolid (10 minutes away) for days exploring its Old Town, National Museum of Sculpture and many handsome old churches; and Palencia, also 10 minutes away and home to high city walls, a 13th-century church and La Olmeda Roman villa. The 15th-century castle at Ampudia is open for guided tours and is under 30 kilometres away; further afield, you could also get to the St James’s Way stopoff town of Frómista, 54 kilometres away, and Olmedo and its Palacio Caballero de Olmedo museum, 67 kilometres from base.
