Scenic countryside, stunning canals and spectacular villages… what more could you ask for? You won’t have to ask at all at Camping Fontenoy, a peaceful and shaded family site with accessible facilities a couple of kilometres from the medieval village of Fontenoy-le-Château in Vosges, in the Lorraine region of France. Fontenoy is a top spot for outdoor getaways – the area is full of marked walking, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding trails, so pull on your walking boots or saddle up on your bike and get to exploring. Back on site, the outdoor activities continue: go one-to-one at the giant chessboard, rack up the points in pétanque, or win the day in football, tennis, volleyball or ping pong. When you start to get peckish, head to the on-site restaurant where you can sit down for a slow meal or grab a takeaway to enjoy in private. For a change of scenery, you can make your way to one of the nearby restaurants or, if you’d prefer to do the cooking yourself, fire up the barbecue.

喜欢: Die Ruhe auf dem Platz, das kleine Restaurant, die Freundlichkeit. Der Ort selbst zwar etwas abgeschieden, aber sehr spannende Ziele für Erwachsene, aber auch für Kinder in sehr kurzer Zeit zu erreichen. Wir werden wiederkommen. Danke.

Any stay at Camping Fontenoy should start with a trip to the scenic village of Fontenoy-le-Château, less than five minutes’ drive from the site. Wander the quiet streets, visit the museum of embroidery and then hire a boat in the village and sail along the canal to see the countryside from a new perspective… Tipplers might want to make their way to the town of Fougerolles, 30 minutes away, which is well known for the production of kirsch – you can call into the Ecomusée du Pays de la Cerise to trace the history of its distillation. For something to put that kirsch in, pick up some souvenirs with a stop at La Rochere glassworks, where you can join a tour to see how the spectacular pieces are made. There’s plenty for kids too: they can explore the paths and labyrinths of La Ferme Aventure or the streets of the stunning Parc des Miniatures, both within 30 minutes of Fontenoy, or you can travel a little bit further and make the trip to La Montagnes des Lamas, just over an hour from the site, to get up close with llamas and alpacas. End your holiday on a zen note with a spa day – les Thermes de Contrexéville and les Thermes de Vittel are both 45 minutes from the site and are top spots for taking the water and completely unwinding.
