The outside facilities looked great for a cosy evening in the summer. Lovely location for wandering, as a member of National Trust and English Heritage there are lots of places nearby. Paid the extra for the toilet/shower room, washing up facilities as none are in the shepherd hut and the free facilities are the opposite end of the field, which meant I could leave my washing stuff in the locked room rather than take it back and forth.

The swipe for the car barrier is inside the site a little way up, which if travelling alone means you have to get out of the car, enter the site swipe the card, return to the car and drive through before the barrier drops. There were no firelighters and tiny amount of kindling provided (1 piece), which could have been a pain as there was noone available when I arrived and it was very cold and wet. Luckily I am a regular camper so had my own. No cleaning items at all in the shepherds hut eg dust pan and brush or cloth which would be nice for surfaces/floor. Also no cover for window in kitchen, which means someone could look in if they wanted, a little off putting when getting changed, sleeping etc.

We are sorry that there was not more kindling left for you as staff are instructed to stock the huts up with logs, kindling and newspaper to light the log burner. This is something that we need to check is being done. Regarding the keypad for the barrier when entering the site - the keypad for entering is located on the right hand side 5m up the drive from the entrance and at night is illuminated. It is located here so that you can open the barrier with the card provided without leaving your car and the barrier stays open long enough for easy entry. We do not leave cleaning equipment as we do not expect the guests to clean up after them but do understand that a dustpan and brush would be handy to leave in. The window you mention does not have a curtain as it measures approximately 10cm wide by 30cm tall and anybody wanting to look in would have climb the steps to the porch before they could look in. An arrival email is sent out prior to arrival with information to get to the site included. As stated in the email satnavs do not get you directly to the site and as such the What3Words code is included which directs you to the nearest square metre of the entrance.
